Caseback Stickers

I know this has to be one of the silliest questions one can ask a watch collector. Is anybody like myself in here who does not take off the caseback sticker on a new watch? I kinda just wait for them to fall off. In some cases however, they just stick to the caseback like in the pictures above! The watch in the pictures is about 2 years old. But it still has that caseback sticker. 🤣

To be honest, I used to have mixed emotions. on one hand, I wanna keep the feeling of “new” status for as long as possible. But on the other hand, for some cases where it’s an exhibition case back, it hinders the visual view of the movement inside the case back. And the stickers are not limited to case back stickers, it’s whatever stickers that’s not removed by the AD 🤣. But nowadays, I have come to my senses, I do remove the stickers and just fully enjoy my watches.

i forget sometimes that I still have them but when I do I peel them off…it feels funny sometimes when the stickers is still attached…

I saw Nekkid Watchmaker do a restoration on a 25-year old Seiko Kinetic with the sticker still on.

It wouldn't peel off.

I don’t pay much attention to stickers if they aren’t visible while wearing it.   Some of mine have lasted years inside the clasp.

I still don't remove them on exhibition casebacks. But they seem to peel off much easier on them so let them be I would say. 🤣

LOL... it doesn't bother me one bit. I just let them peel off on their own. A natural death perhaps... 🤣

Wow! That is one really impressive sticker! 😃 To think it has been 25yo without discoloration and sticks on like an effin' epoxy! 😂

Exactly my same thoughts aside from maybe protecting the caseback from early premature scratches. 😉

Those stickers always make me think of...

And you know who loves that look?

So pull that sticker off and prove you're not an 87-year-old lady.

LMFAO... I feel you sir. I am just that much careful of my watches I guess. You really gave me a effin' good laugh! 🤣🤣🤣

·

That's a good one, "Nekkid"! 🤣

·

Now...don't be silly!

Good article.  A small fraction (10-17%) of the population is allergic to nickel, and there is a statistical relationship between nickel allergy and autoimmune diseases, as well as a theory that viruses evade eradication from the body by binding to metallic elements such as nickel.  Leaving the sticker on the back of a stainless steel watch can reduce your exposure.

i attach clear matt sticker on each of my caseback. just to avoid scratch, especially one with bracelet 😂

·

Reminds me of those people who bought a new car and still left the wrappers on the visors and headrest.

Agree! We are sometimes OCD on this matter 😂

The human being is really a mysterious animal altogether. 😂

I also have that same feeling with stickers on the crystal, clasp and bracelet. Somehow however, I kinda stop when it comes to the caseback sticker.😂 I must be weird that way... 😉

I always take it off. I want the watch to age across the board at the same rate.

I have a custom made filing drawer in which I store my stickers. Each sticker has its own card in the filing draw. Next to each sticker, I put the date of receiving/buying the watch and the time of unpacking it. I also write notes about the watch, places it's been, times it has been wound and so on. I also cross reference each card with others, for ease of finding links and differences between them. Every month, I write a summary of the entries and bind them in a ring binder.  I can now tell anyone a great deal about my watch stickers and I am popular at parties.

After any of this activity, I tend to lie down in a darkened room and take a hefty dose of chlorpromazine.

Wow! I keep all my receipts and print a photo of the watch with as much details about the watch as I know it such as case size, movement, etc and keep them in a folder.

But this is the NEXT LEVEL up. 👏🍻

The only back sticker I never removed is a hologram sticker on the back of my Datejust. It’s still on 15+ years later.

As a general rule, I find the protective sticker uncomfortable; yes, occasionally I forget to take one off and then my wrist starts feeling it, etc.

The other thing is that it’s a back! Do you take off the protective wrap from the crystal?

Front crystal definitely. On the see-thru caseback, I just let it fall off on its own 😂

Rolex used to put a green sticker on their caseback. I never took mine off - always let them wear off... then I just stopped worrying about it

They would normally wear-off anyway. There is just this one piece that never did I guess. 🤣
