Sleeper Watch

We so commonly see popular and well known brand names talked and posted about all the time. I’m curious on what is one watch in your collection that only a watch enthusiast would know how special it is?

The Voumard 2000 is interesting in multiple ways.

Formally not part of my collection, it’s my dad’s “good watch”. We don’t see too many Bvlgari here in WC, so I’m happy to rep it here.

Tuning forks, who knew!?

Just depends what you mean by that but pretty much all but my gshock qualify in some way (and even then most don't know how quartz watches work, let alone digital or even what the word digital means)

My casio is a jdm. Orient isn't a brand everyone knows and the model is obscure. My wise is a microbrand. Gotten plenty of compliments on my moonswatch from people who don't know what a speedy is

I even have a watch that's the opposite, it's an awesome watch but is less liked by many so called enthusiasts cos its a smart watch lol

Seiko Railroad Time, been on my wrist for over 20 years. Rolex OP, been on my family’s wrists since the 1940s.

I reckon a lot of people within the hobby don't realise how good either of these are.

Certina's re-issued divers are pretty special, particularly for the money:

And the FC Highlife is ridiculously good and very underrated:

Not even a watch enthusiast would know what it is, only 150 pieces made by a Hungarian and an Austrian guy in Austria, and maaan, it's a masterpiece and a joy to wear. It's their first creation, and it's so good, what's coming up in the future? Can't wait!

Maison Celadon Imperial in Purple. Rare and awesome but few folks know what it is.

It looks stunning, I love the color palette.

·

Damasko DK32. It is not particularly special but still it is not a common watch kwown to the masses. Readability is one of its strong suit.

Here we go

Certina DS7 39mm (compared to PRX a better case shape)

Image

Citizen NB 1050 38mm (compared to Tsuyosa much higher quality Citizen nobody talks about)

Image

Longines Saint Imier 38.5mm (forget about the new Hydroconquest which is way tooooo big, this one is gorgeous a 2017 release but Longines never continued the model name)

Image

Tudor Style 38mm - the forgotton son, all the hype about other models but this is the most elegant Tudor on a bracelet that literally nobody talks about

Image

Citizen NB7620 Eco Drive 38mm (great specs and special case design, great finish, again people are sleeping)

Image

The good old Tissot PR100 ( for me the real Gentleman - everyday gada watch)

Image

Last but not least another Longines this time the Record collection here in beautiful 38.5mm even Chronmeter certified

For me - ‘sleeper’ implies something that looks simple/boring.. but is much more than a glance indicates.

Among my group: what’s more simple than a black Seiko diver? At a glance, it’s a beater dive watch, few hundred bucks , right?

Image

It’s hidden pop:

Designed by Ken Okuyama of Pininfarina and Ferrari Enzo fame: low CG, grade 5 Ti, 0.1 sec/day spring drive, high polish DLC, cermet mirror polished bezel, 18k second hand. Nearly black sunray dial it’s like looking at the ocean at night. And lume that I’ve yet to see matched in any dive watch, I collect dive watches! (duration especially) . Made in GS studio in Shinshu.

Disappears on wrist, 100g and wraps wrist with short lug to lug. 300m diver you never want to take off.. this SNR043 Seiko LX is 96/200

did I convince anyone 😜

Oh and at recent watch meetup at Ben Bridge in Seattle, one sales guy noticed, and ran over, calling all the other sales guys to come look at it. At a meetup with Rolexes, Pateks and Bulgaris, simple black Seiko FTW 🤪

That’s an awesome Seiko! And yes, definitely only a watch enthusiasts or Seiko enthusiasts will appreciate. It really looks like the GS diver. Whats your wrist size if you don’t mind me asking? I have the SBDB009 SD Tuna and it wears surprisingly comfortable for my 6.75 “ wrist. To most, it’s just a PVDed Tuna Can Seiko. To me it’s a cool movement from the GS line in a Seiko.

Thank you!

I took a flyer and bought it without even a try on. Usually a bad outcome, right? Total gamble.

I’m a 6 inch, 15.2 cm wrist - aka bird wrist, and it’s 45mm x 15mm watch - so unwearable, right?

I’ve tried on 40mm watches that are too big for me.

But this wacky thing fits like glove and disappears on wrist. It’s bomb proof and I wear it everywhere. My most worn watch by good margin.

like I described above, this one is shockingly weirdly good 😮!

Here you can see how indices refract light:

and here is some more of its dimensions

The 009 is a dang 007 of watches.

Baller 600m with that unbreakable shroud around it. Awesomeness 💪😎

That’s the seiko voodoo on their bug watches? 😅 yeah same with the Tunas and I’m hooked on them! Thanks for the feedback. I was researching the specifications and was worried in the size. Some mentioned that the L2L was 50+ but lug hole to lug hole was 45 as you mentioned. So was just curious if I foam pull it off.
