If someone brand new to the hobby (obsession), I probably say a G-Shock square & a Duro. Then they have one from each side, and can then learn about the hobby sort of pressure free. Probably won't stop them from buying everything they can get their hands on though.
Vostok - Anchor and wheel. My preference is for mechanical watches...

A Swiss Army Lancer 100 from the 90s in on my radar and $150 is exactly what I'd be willing to pay for a NOS large version.
I posted new, not something I stole at auction, since really it would be unrealistic to think that it could be repeated on demand, and the assumption is the OP is shopping around at that price.
Plus, a bunch from AliExpress that I haven't posted here (other than the first one, the Baltany).

Well, it depends what you want. Quartz? Go to Walmart and you can get between 30 - 50 watches for your $150. 😂
More interested in mechanical watches? The Orient Kanno Kan be had for that. Put another 50 in the pot and you can get the Sapphire upgrade in the Mako line.

The Five Eye are amazing, too. So comfortable and well made. Quality material, stitching and hardware. Wish they offered more colors.

My buddy turns 50 next month and he's not a watch guy but he always asks we're wearing when we're out - little does he knows a Seiko 5 SNK361K is heading his way in a few weeks. It was <$150 (it was £88) and easily looks ten times that 👍

Yeah there are a couple variations i like but im sure there will be better ones. I hope the eco drives get to look more like the automactics in the future
