Do you like to run your chronograph all day or use it as needed?

I really enjoy the look of chronographs but having a small seconds complication annoys me. I need a bigger hand ticking away. The easy solution, run the chrono all day so I have a second hand that goes round and round. Am I committing watch hearsay? Let me know in the poll.

I love that it's waiting there at 12. It's neat and waiting for my command to start timing stuff.

I used to run my swatch irony like that some years ago, a non moving seconds hand just bugged the shit out of me. Not so much these days. I do however play with the chrono alot more nowadays. I'm always timing my runs to doc appointments, Walgreens or downtown just for shits a giggles.

While there is nothing wrong with running it all day besides wear and tear, I generally don’t.

It bothers me to have machinery running unnecessarily.

That greatly reduces battery life

I'll make sure to add an extra to my mechanical watch 😘

It depends on where the clutch is.

On most standard chronographs, there is extra wear if you run the chrono seconds all the time.

On a vertical clutch column wheel chronograph, there is no extra wear when running the chrono hand.  The extra wear happens when the seconds hand is stopped.

When I wear a standard chronograph, I leave the chrono hand stopped.  When I wear a column wheel chronograph, I let the chrono hand run.

Seriously, you need help...😉

I'd honestly never thought about it - I usually leave the seconds hand alone, unless I need to time something (which is, lets be honest, never....)

·

I don't like chronographs.  😜

I like to have chronograph on my watch but frankly never use it. I tried to time few things with chronograph and then forgot that I had activated it because my phone reminded me that the time is up.
I am sure one day when I am stuck on a lunar module with O2 tank blown away and I have to time a 14 sec burn on my engines, I will use my Speedy for its intended use. For all other times it’s going to wait at 12 o’clock position.

Mine runs most of the time, but it is a vertical column clutch, which I’ve heard does well with this. And yes, I line up my small seconds and large second hand to run the same.

OCD - you don’t know how much fun it is until you try it!

It’s all well and good leaving that chronograph running, but when. Mr Toad comes flying around the corner in his latest automobile and says Hey Ratty time my trip to the village and back, Badger is going to be pissed with you fumbling to reset and restart and Moley is going to mutter Oh dear oh dear.
