Tudor Black Bay GMT Opaline

So I really like gmt watches but I never liked the Tudor Black Bay GMT with the black dial. I loved the Black Bay Pro, but when I had a chance to get one I had already bought a Longines Sprit Zulu Time. Then came along Watches and Wonders this year and a new obsession was born.

There are very few watches that I see that I love at first sight. In fact I often go through a tortured process when looking to buy watches. This watch, from first youtube video to the many that followed, immediately had me obsessed. A simple dial color change had me hooked.

I immediately emailed my AD saying that I was more then interested in this watch. That weekend I drove out to the shop to try on the black dial version just to make sure I was okay with the form factor. It was a bit thick and a bit heavy, but pretty comparable with the Zulu Time.

While there I tried on a Ranger and was heavily tempted, like really, really tempted. A watch I recommend seeing in person as it is so much better then the pictures. But I held the course and merely said, "When the GMT is here, I will be here".

So yesterday I got the call and first thing this morning, right at store opening, I went in and snagged this beauty. Yes it is big, yes it is a bit heavy, and no it doesn't have a t-fit clasp (the dealer actually went to show me t-fit functionality before realizing it didn't have it lol).

It really is beautiful. Definitely more a silver then a white in normal light but looks stunning. Something about the lighter dial just opens up the watch. I also really love the bezel, really smooth and clicky with a nice grip.

While not for everybody or all wrist sizes it is one of my favorite watches. It is probably on my top 10 list this year. We'll see how it goes after the honey moon period though before I can say for sure. For now I can't stop looking at it and clicking the bezel.

Enjoy, man! It’s a great piece. I was wearing my black dial version today. More than a year in and I’m still in love.

Congrats, it’s a beauty!

And I totally agree about the Ranger. Probably my most comfortable and most worn watch.

I fell in love with it immedialtely as well, as I have been on the search for a Rolex Coke and had already started pricing. After pricing out the aluminum bezel Rolex, this seem like a great deal! I am on the list at several places and I am hoping any day. Two tweaks I am considering - 1) adding a jubilee band, and 2) adding a cyclops. I get it that the cyclops is controversial but am doing some research to see if I do not like it can I remove it?
