Do you have limits for when you buy?

Got this Halios in January and I’m already thinking about the next acquisition. Do you limit yourself to so many watches per month/year or is it a free for all?

Personally I’m trying to hold off until W&W to see the new releases, then start working from my ‘short list’

Should be D but it’s A

I'm done buying but I've never been into buying more than a couple here and there. Never understood how people buy multiple watches on a regular basis. It's not for me to understand either but my goal was always to enjoy quality watches and then buy "forever watches" once I was able to get what I considered keepers.

Unfortunately for me my watch tastes have become more expensive over my time collecting. So I usually buy a nice piece once a year/big life event.

I’m afraid I’m heading down that path as well. I see a lot of cool microbrand releases under $1000 that I would buy, then think ‘will I really wear this over my nicer watches’? No I won’t.

I buy what I want, but budgets matter.

·

For me it's more about budget. I'm trying to limit myself to a specific amount per year. So if that ends up being 1 watch or 10, I don't really care at this point. I think that may change as I start to grow my collection, which is only at 9 right now.

I’m in that same position too. I only plan to buy 1 watch this year.

It’s all subject to the budget. I have a long list of watches I’d buy if I had the money.

·

I should! SMH

100% my life lol.

“Ok, I just got this new watch, time to sell one of my other ones.

Eh, not that one, or that one, orrrr that one…”

And so it goes lol

C and a bit of A and B. If it's under say $175, go nuts.

However over $500 hold off and think about it and over $1000 only 1 or MAYBE 2 a year

It all depends on the itch!

It all depends on the itch!

Fair enough!

I like those rules, but my weak willpower and stressful job mean that I fall into column A generally.

I'm planning to sell one of my pricey watches before getting another pricey watch, but for stuff that's under 1k there is no rule at all.

Luckily (or more accurately, terribly) I seldom like inexpensive watches 🤪

Right now have a studio underdog in the mail, and 2 or 3 other pricey possible watches on the radar for 2024. If W&W has a bunch of new awesomeness I'll be in trouble...

·

I used to be a buy what I want when I want, but that can lead to missing out on exciting releases and too many impulse purchases, so now I try to show some patience and wait to see new releases.

I buy what I want, when I want. But vitally, that doesn't mean I "pig out" on watches. Over many years of collecting, I've come to see little value in having box after box of stuff I don't wear. I mean, what's that good for, aside from trying to impress online people you've never met, who actually don't care what you have? So my collection's down to 5 and a sixth is lurking, once I get word from the European watchmaker who's making it for me, bespoke. Should be soon. And if I want anything beyond that, I'll buy it. But I'm more likely to sell my Omega and Tudor next, and drop down to four watches before I buy anything else.

Always good to have a nice diver. I have my Tuna which I bought in more recent times, and is just incredible to wear and so tool-tastic, it's ridiculous. And if I want a cheap diver on my wrist for some reason, I've hung onto a Casio Duro. I feel covered AF for divers.

It's A, but I would add that it is limited buy my budget.... And by my wife!

·

To be honest 1-2 a year seems very little especially going into microbrand. Watch and wonder & gphg usually has a large lag cause I am in Asia. So release and availability usually 4-5 months. Microbrand seems to be fair cause everyone buys from the same time window. Purchasing whenever I want, my house would be flooded by watches and my bank would be empty

·

I would love to just have six max in my collection. I sold three watches the last couple of weeks but the last month I have bought four more 😔.

·

I need to have a particular reason to buy, otherwise I just don't.

·

Look man, I can tell you all the answers that "make sense", but we've already jumped; there's no stopping gravity now.

·

I buy want I want when I want but tbh that’s only cause none of the other options met the way I do things - only really get a watch to mark a life event. For me it keeps things special, keeps the price down and keeps me moving into the constant buying and “collecting”. As always, everyone to their own and hope however you collect brings you joy

·

I selected A but I would add ‘ if I can afford it’

·

I am gradually developing tighter limits. But my main system is to filter watches I want through the system I have for my wishlist. Basically, I will put every watch. I am currently lusting after or find myself looking at a lot on there and will regularly revisit it throughout the week. Often times I will strike watches off there as scheduled for deletion the ones that end up sticking around the most are the ones I generally like the most, but at the same time it also makes me question how much I really like those, and whether or not I still have the strong feelings for them.
