1 Year of Collecting... "I need help"

So it's been already a year since I fell into this rabbit hole and.... I think I got a problem.

I just can't stop....

Already about to finish my entry-mid level japan collection. I got the usual suspects, alpinist, willard, orients and such.

Now aiming to collect aliexpress, Swiss, British and German microbrands.

And maybe along the way get myself a taste of rolex and grand seiko.

How did ya'll face the addiction that this hobby nurtures?

It’s a progressive disease

·

Buying less watches with higher prices at lwast curbs the amount of wathces purchased

·

Sry mate, there is no real cure, just treatment 🫡

Mine is to have a top 12 (size of the watch box). Any new watch needs to fall in the ~top 6 to be worth buying and HAS to knockout the 12th to backup box.

And anything new can’t be so expensive over the others that it’s price alone will keep it in the top 6 for an extended time.

How I faced it? With introspection, data, math & personal growth.

·

Having bills to pay and a relationship to care for.

I started writing reviews for a watch shop to hve an outlet for my thoughts and to earn some money touching watches instead of spending a lot.

If you buy yourself a shiny new present every few weeks, it makes you feel good. It used to be called "retail therapy", which is an ironic name, btw.

Wikipedia says "shopping may provide a short time of comfort... but also imposes costs and is subject to comedown and withdrawal, make it like opioid use."

Just sayin'.

Buy used, get more for your money - & aim higher, you'll loose less when it comes to resale.

Try to operate a one in one out policy.

You don't have to own every single watch you like - appreciate what you have & don't get addicted to the short term dopamine hit of a new purchases, you'll end up with a morass of mediocrity rather than a small potent collection of watches you're in love with & proud of.

Take your time.

Enjoy it!! 😊

·

Really cool collection, great variety of dials and colours.

·

Yes, I can see the problem....you need a bigger watch box

·

I have more watches than that so I clearly cannot say that this a problem. The real issue is that it was done in less than a year.

You’ve built up a broad base collection. You’ve tried different models, sizes, colours, etc. You are finding out what you like.

Hopefully you can take some time to relax and enjoy what you already have while considering what you really want in the future.

·

One word of advice - stay away from Casio. You'll slide quickly from the rabbit hole into quicksand! 😊

Well, you can always purchase watch rolls to accommodate any new watches...😊
