Pagani Design

What’s the consensus on homage brands like Pagani Design?

I’m looking at a couple of pieces to scratch the itch of some vastly more expensive pieces that I’m not in a position to purchase at the moment.

Has anybody got any experience of the quality of these and whether they are worth purchasing?

No personal experience with PD and don’t think there’s a consensus on anything. Some folks here do love the brand though.

Worth purchasing is all up to you. I have bought 2 homage watches from them and the value for what your getting is great up side. I’m pretty sure all there models use an nh35 movement which is what seiko uses so it’s pretty reliable and when time time comes to service it that will be an easy and affordable swap out. Instead of freezing 10k in a Rolex I bought the homage to the sub no date. The. I choose to modify it on top of it. Upon opening the Watch I didn’t find any parts that where disappointing at all. Hope this helps you.

For the money, they're absolutely phenomenal!

·

I have the PD1701v3 "Speedmaster" homage and I love it! 👍

·

I have no experience of Pagani Design but San Martin produce some excellent homage watches as do many others.

It does look the part I’ve got to say!

Nothing wrong with PD, or SM for that matter.

Great value all round.

I bought about 6 Paganis over the course of a couple years, and while they've all since moved on from my collection, they were a fun and affordable way to get a taste of pieces that were (and still are lol) way out of my price range. More importantly, I think it helped me find out what I liked and disliked. In fact, I bought a Pagani version of one of the grail watches I was saving for, just to make sure I liked the general fit and style.

Quality-wise, they were solid for the money! My only major issues were with an Explorer II that had a wonky GMT movement (pre-NH34 versions), and an AquaTerra chrono where the chronograph seconds hand fell off. Otherwise they were darn good value, and are worth purchasing if you know what you are getting. I would also suggest you try not to overpay; Amazon sells many $60-$80 Paganis for well over $100. To be honest I probably wouldn't shell out more that $120ish for even the nicest Pagani models, as some other Chinese brands like San Martin are only a bit more than that, and are a step up in quality. But that's just me).

In the end, buy what you like! 🍻

Appreciate your feedback, really useful. I will definitely shop round. Have looked at the San Martins, but wasn’t sure if they were worth the extra.

They’re fun. They do not scratch the itch, though. They make it worse.

For the (small) money they go for the quality is good, especially the watch heads, the bracelets aren't the best but again for the small money they're OK. I've got a couple and am impressed. But be warned you WILL want the real thing (and badly) and that's why my hommages are up for sale.

Yes, I’m afraid that will be the case for me. Maybe asking for trouble.

😂that’s my fear!!

It gets even worse when you go try on your grail. Then, every time you see the PD you not only “see” the real thing, but you see how it’s NOT the real thing! 😩

If the IP owners cared enough to enforce their IP they would. However, they realize homages are basically free advertising.

If the IP owners don't care, why should we? As long as it's not trying to be the real thing with branding, I don't care.

Also, we all know the markup on some of these classic designs from the IP owners is ridiculous. The R&D costs have been amortized off the ledger long ago, but the cost is still just as high. I want the look, but can't afford the markup and since the homage exists & the IP owner doesn't care, I'll buy the homage.

Yes I can imagine!! 😂

·

Absolutely, and thanks for bringing that up. It’s definitely done that for me a couple times. Particularly when the homage dimensions are identical.

·

I have 2 PD homage watches, and in fairness they are decent.

I also have a genuine speedy, and obviously it's in a different league, as you would expect.

But if you want a similar looking watch (there are many subtle differences) then they are far better value than the Moonswatch for 1/3 of the cost!

A dangerous game ❤ and for the money a ridiculously good watch (the hommage)

·

I am a bit of a watch snob but saying that I really like my PD gmt and was pleasantly surprised with the quality and very impressed with the accuracy of it but I don’t really take them seriously I look at them as fun watches like coz play costume but for watches

That’s a lovely looking watch.

Posted this before; imho PD gives you a lot of bang for about a hundred bucks. No quality issues so far - and no yearning for the real thing 🙃

I had 5 PDs over the course of the last 2 years in my collection. Plus 3 Corgeuts (lower in terms of quality and price). They all got either gifted to friends and family and 1 (the best of them) was sold on a small loss. I bought 3 new on sale from amazon and 2 used from ebay. I would say they were really decent for the money especially if you buy them used (50% if msrp). It can help you see if you like the real thing in terms of dimensions and such. My biggest dissapointment was always with the lume and occasionaly with the bracelets

It’s here. I’m giving it a go.
