Two-Tone Sport Watches: Love Them or Hate Them?

Two-tone sport watches are a style of watches that combine steel and gold elements for a bi-color look. This style has been popular since the 1970s, when some luxury watch brands introduced their iconic models in two-tone versions. However, two-tone sport watches have also been controversial, as some people have different opinions about their aesthetics and value.

In recent years, two-tone sport watches have become more popular again, as many watchmakers have launched new models or reissued old ones in this style.

But how do two-tone sport watches compare to steel or gold ones in terms of value? It depends on the demand and availability of each model. Some steel sport watches are more expensive than their gold or two-tone counterparts in the secondary market, especially for models that have long waiting lists or limited production.

So, do you like or dislike two-tone sport watches? Do you think they are fashionable or tacky? Do you own or want to buy one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

I'm indifferent. I'd probably buy if I saw one that I liked, but that hasn't happened yet.

·

Like any other style of watch, some are well done and some not so much. I only have the one (Navi) and it works well with my style and the anthracite dial.

·

They are the perfect gift for a retirement party.

·

I generally like a very discrete gold tone.

I love them!

It gives you this gilt without this wannabe vintage look with faultina and so on. Additionally, you have the gold shine, but not to much. It is only on the second sight. The steel and gold contrast is also very pleasing.

And why caring about the resale value?! watches are there to wear and not to speculate…

Meh. Not for me.

I don't like two tone watches. Gold in watches in general give me that rich old men vibe. Definitely not my style.

·

Not for me,but some two-tone Datejusts, especially with fluted bezel, looks very nice.

I originally asked for stainless steel sea dweller, later then changed my mind to the two-tone. No regrets, it's a super nice watch, you really have to see two-tone watches in person and handle them, not the same as photos online.

I like the extra heft the gold adds, also as mentioned above, the gold shines and glimmers when you catch it in the light.

I have plenty of stainless steel watches, but having something gold makes it a bit more special, a class above

Not for me. Certainly for Rolex, the recent popularity was partially driven by the lack of stainless steel stock. Quite deep into the Rolex bubble, you could still get a grey market bi-metal below retail. Then they went crazy also as stocks were snapped up by flippers.

Does bronze and steel count? Rose gold hands and outline of hour markers. Best part about patina bronze is the wear and tear scratches to the bracelet blend in nicely 👍

We do not live in vacuums including shifting fashion trends but for me gold and steel was something that was almost de rigueur in the 80s until it wasn’t, suddenly two tone was viewed as an option for the person who wanted luxury but could not actually afford it or all gold! Two tone today is a fashion trend favoured by younger persons who want to be flashy or even just a bit trashy according to my much younger acquaintances. Personally I have been actively purchasing black PVD or DLC as well as black ceramic case watches during recent years. I have become bored with the all steel sports watch market and certainly had no desire to retrace steps taken in the past.

·

I never used to be a fan, but over the years I've come to appreciate them more and I have a couple in my collection now.

Two-tone DateJust or De Ville?

Two-tone Sub or Speedy?

Love me a black and steel two tone. New Nodus Sector Deep and Douglas Skindiver II are both 👌🏻 to me.

I also like mixing over black with stainless.

Dont know if either of these count as two tone though?

·

Don't have it yet.....😅🫣 hopefully soon. I did get a different variant/Collab version TBH.

I'll post some pics once it's in hand.

On the fence at the moment about ordering the regular destro for the wife.

Either way, the other cruncher who has one and based off others who've reviewed it in person, the dual tone looks great.

I'd say the same thing about their Sector Pilot too, the black bezel with brushed/blasted case looks good.

Sorry about any confusion.😅

I want a two tone Glycine Combat Vintage 42

Just wait until your are a rich old man..LOL All is good.

·

I grew up in the 80s where two-tone watches were really popular. I even have vague memories of owning one. But to me, now, they just remind me of that time and thus feel dated and old and cheesy.

·

Not for me.

When I think of TT, I always think of my best friend’s dad. He was a dentist who had a 70s TT Datejust. Fluted bezel on jubilee. For me this is quintessential TT.

Generally hate two tone. But somehow, the Rolex Guinness looks really beautiful to me. Rolex root beer is also quite nice.

·

I’m a fan. They have their time and place.

Indeed it is. Not mine though, as it is US-only, it is a photo I found online. I immediately liked it at first sight.

·

I am not a two-tone kinda guy. 😬
