It can be new or pre-owned...this is your one really nice watch among the (also loved) Casios, Seikos, and misc everyday beaters. Something sporty, refined, upscale. What do you choose?
I'll post my top list but want to see yours!

Rolex Explorer
My Everest (and perhaps the end of the Watch journey) would be the Seamaster Aqua Terra. I might just sell all my worldly possessions after that.
Dang you guys are thinking exactly like me!
New choices here. Cartier Santos, Omega Seamaster Aquaterra, Zenith Chronomaster, IWC Big Pilot, Breitling B09
Explorer, it's the only watch you need. If I could start over I'd buy an Explorer and be done
My list to far:
Rolex Explorer I
Cartier Santos blue dial
Omega AT Skyfall
Ochs und junior moon phase.
Either a Speedy or an Aqua Terra.
Lots of great options in the range. My favorites:
Grand Seiko
Zenith Chronomaster (under 6k used)
IWC Big Pilot
Quite a few Mings
Ochs Und Junior has fascinating watches in that range as well
You can also find some old Habring2s around there
Omega Skyfall, Longines Master Triple Date Cartier Santos Blue, Heuer Monaco
Cartier Santos De Cartier medium with white dial.

Also…
OP 41 blue dial
I could come with up certain ideas for watches, but if I'm honest, I probably wouldn't spend the money on a watch at the moment. Maybe at a later time, but there is no rush.
Cartier Santos… every time one gets posted here i 😍
This was my first luxury watch purchase so I support this suggestion 🙂
For me, it would have to be the Tudor Ranger. I have been interested in this watch since it was released, and seeing it in person at my local AD only had me drooling even more! 🤪
Get one. They are awesome.
My first big purchase was the GS SBGA407. Sill own it and wear it quite frequently. This picture is the actually day I bought it!
But knowing what I know now, I would get my Aqua Terra first as it would have saved me a lot of money, lol. This watch is just super versatile and works in every situation. And it pretty robust to boot!
I did own the OP41 for a bit but I didn’t connect with it. With the male end links I felt like it never sat properly on my wrist, but it is a beauty.
I also think the SBGA465 is a stunner and for $4800 it is a great deal for a spring drive. And it’s one of the few GS models with 20mm lug width which is a game changer. I get the feeling this watch will join my collection as some point.
So many good options, happy hunting!!
I'd choose from other watches tomorrow and the day after ... But for today I would have a hard time to decide between the following watches.
I open the carousel with a fairly unexpected watch.
It is a marvelous piece of technology: 37 mm by 2.98 mm, eco-drive with 360 days of power reserve, made of technologically interesting materials, etc. This Citizen One AR5044-03E is thinner than its crocodile wrist band. It is a 1000 pieces limited edition. There is a quite similar stainless steel version for about half the price.
The others are probably more expected candidates:
Breitling Superoecean Heritage B20 Automatic 42.
Or one out of the following two
Breitling Top Time B01 Shelby Cobra
... Ford Thunderbird.
I didn't see any Citizen One yet, but the Breitlings are looking great in person.
That Superocean is stunning

A fine piece at that. I hope to own as nice one day

I’m sure you will! It took me some time to acquire mine as well, but it was very worth the wait and work.
Either Rolex Explorer I (39 or 40mm) or IWC Spitfire Bronze with the green dial. I tried the IWC and loved it instantly!
Grand Seiko SBGA413
Grand seiko sbgy007
Fortis Stratoliner,
A cheap mechanical reverso,
Ok I’ve got it narrowed down! The DJ is above my original range, but may be able to get it at MSRP…it’s between that and the Cartier. What do we think?
These 2 are nice

I’d add a Zenith defy. Funky colour

Just spent this budget three times in the last couple of months. Cartier Ballon Bleu, Panerai Luminor Quaranta, Rolex Explorer. Kinda stuck if you ask me to do it again.
