I'm sure it could just be me, but I feel quartz is due for a little more respect. I admit that the "tick" of the seconds hand is boring. Being said, the convenience of knowing your time and date are always accurate is satisfying and feels efficient, tbh. I appreciate and love auto/mech watches, the finest craftsmanship on Earth. But quartz ..... deserves more love ๐

I agree. All my watches are quartz and I donโt have any plans on changing this!
I know us watch nerds live in our own bubble but by volume and domestic product, quartz watches by far take up the largest part of the pie. Not to mention smart watches are eating into not only quartz sales but also mechanicalโฆ.so really mechanical watches are the ones in need of a comeback.
I do get what youโre implying; a comeback in watch culture in general. I love quartz as much as mechanical I so hope so but I think thatโs unlikely. I think what we will see is mechaquartz movements being used a lot more in entry level watches as inflation continues to arise and the market continues to get more competitive but I donโt think that people will get excited about quartz outside of that.

Couldn't agree more with each statement. You caught my drift, much appreciated bruv!

Sticking to what works is never a bad idea!
Everything has its place and purpose.

Simple, reliable, accurate, inexpensive. I just want to know what time it is and feel good doing it, quartz fills all the roles for me!!
I wish more quartz watches came with a sweeping hand movement! I know for a fact they exist because Berny uses them in their Seiko SNK809 ripoff and the El Cheapo wall clocks at my school sweep too!
Like many on here I have nothing but love for quartz and think they occupy an important part of the watch world.
@Watchovski has called 2024 the year of quartz and Iโm inclined to agree ๐ช picked up my dream daily (an eco drive) first thing this year
Seeing that tick match the atomic clock half a year after setting the watch brings me as much joy as watching the internal mechanisms of an automatic watch rotate.
Iโm really impressed when a quartz watch ticks and lands exactly on each minute marker
Even though I have recently rekindled my joy for autos, I think my name on here says it all.
I like watches of all kinds, but Iโm hoping for more high end quartz and analog-digital this year.
We already have additional Solargraph models from Tag Heuer and a quartz Snowflake from Grand Seiko, which is great start, but new high accuracy and high frequency quartz calibers seem needed right now.
A lot seems possible. Iโd love to see a quartz chronograph or a solar quartz from Grand Seiko, for example. They seem well poised to do so. Even taking current calibers and putting them in more models would go a long way. Omega putting the solar ana-digi movement from the Tissot T-Touch Sport into a new X-33 would be awesome, as would Seiko putting their 5K65 movement into new models and making it available to third parties.

Dudeโฆitโs happening. Jody from Just One More Watch just picked up his grail for 2024โฆa Quartz GSโฆ.just saying.
interesting do you think so
Anti quartz snobs are surface deep at best. It's just another flavor, a flavor that 95% of the time isn't as highly finished or complicated as manual, automatics, spring drives etc, but another flavor nonetheless. Everything has it's place
Only one so far..
But am dying to get a 9F GS so will add another one of these days!!
I like a good mechanical watch, but if you give me a choice between a mechanical and a solar quartz I will think twice.
I love a good Eco-Drive
If you find the tick of the seconds hand boring, it's worth reminding yourself of the complexity that goes into mechanical watches with the jumping seconds complication. You can spend an awful lot of money to enjoy that tick.

My friend, your watch goals this year are set. ๐

I know of this, but all their models (esp Lunar Pilot) are gigantic or imo fugly. Idek why they need to be that big when they were made smaller before
I have the Bulova Jet Star with this movement in. I find the sweep of the second hand mesmerising! It is smoother than mechanical as it ticks at 262kHz. Where the el primerotickd at 5 Hz. It has to be seen to be believed
