Can I like This Watch?

Don't ask me how, but I purchased a Sugess Moonphase Master. I think as a watch "enthusiast" I'm not supposed to like this watch. Got to admit though, this thing is flat out amazing on many levels. At $170, the value prop is tops. Am I convincing myself of something, or is this watch legit?

I think it looks amazing and would definitely buy if I were in the market for a moonphase.

Why would you not be supposed to like it, even as an enthusiast? Just enjoy the things you like.

Looks like a fun watch to me, and chalk off two complications!

Wow, is this aventurine?

I like watches, not brands! As long as it looks good, feels good and it's well made (and of course it's not an outright fake) I don't really care for who makes it.

I looked at that watch pretty hard. I ended up with this one and I’ve been very happy with it.

Way cool!

Very nice. Love that dial 👍And, I would consider Sugess a good Chinese brand.

There's an attitude among some that Chinese brands are inherently second-rate, regardless of the watches themselves and regardless of what people might enjoy about them. "Cheap Chinese knockoff" is a stereotype that ends up contaminating people's perceptions of all Chinese-made watches.

I think this view is mostly, but maybe not entirely, without justification. San Martin make some great watches at amazing prices, but a very large proportion of their catalogue consists of unimaginative "homages" that are uncomfortably close to the line of being "clones" or even "fakes". Rightly or wrongly, this affects how people feel about even their original designs.

All that being said, though, I totally agree with your philosophy: buy what you want to, enjoy what you have, and never mind what other people think about it. Don't let snobbery against Chinese watches affect your enjoyment of a great watch that happens to come from China, especially since many "Swiss Made" watches are right on the line of being 40% Chinese anyway.
