No time for titanium?

So I'm on the fence here. I want to get an Omega SMP for my next big birthday and I really really like the looks of the NTTD variant and the blue 60th anniversary version too. So during my travel passing through the airport I was lucky to find a watch store selling Omega watches and they had both the James Bond edition as well as the SMP300 stainless steel in white dial.

I requested to try both. The NTTD felt light. Too light. And compared to the SMP300 felt a bit 'cheap'? The stainless steel gave me the feeling it is there. Like a reminder of something on your wrist.

Mind you, the price difference (brand new) is more than double for the James Bond edition. So I'm really on the fence here, as I like the looks but not the feeling of it.

Wondering how do compare both watches and if you have experience wearing both?

I, personally, don't like the feel of a titanium watch...or rather, the lack of feel of a titanium watch. It's gorgeous, but I'd prefer it in steel.

·

I have one titanium watch and I like it. It’s noticeably lighter than steel watches but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. The color is also different, which I think is nice. Variety is a spice of life. …and Omega divers are real nice, with or without 007

·

I’d go for the 60th. I’m not a fan of titanium and certainly would never pay a premium for it. The blue 60th is a very cool watch.

Agreed with variety 😁

The 60th anniversary blue dial, isn't it titanium too on mesh bracelet?

·

I considered a titanium watch version on a Planet Ocean. I stayed with the stainless steel. Very, very happy I did.

Seems way too much emphasis is being placed on watch weights and/or case sizes. Lighter & smaller doesn't interest me. Not even a little bit. Give me my big, beautiful boat anchor!

Oh, I just checked the website. It's steel but I thought the mesh bracelet is titanium

I have the NTTD and the Ti GoodPlant AT. Love both the color and the weight of the Ti, but no reason to get them if you don’t.

This is the one to get between the 2 ... 1000%

·

Both great.

I love my white dial...

I have the NTTD Seamaster, and the weight hasn’t been a problem for me. It’s lighter compared to other watches of mine like the BB58 and Speedy, but I think that the darker hue of the metal goes with the overall style of the watch, having a brown dial and darker lume. Honestly, I’d say get the watch you like the look of the most. If you like the NTTD, you’ll get used to wearing the titanium as you wear it :)

·

The NTTD is a fantastic watch! I can’t afford it yet but I will always choose this over any other new seamasters.

·

I love the green variant

As someone that owns the NTTD, I love the lightness, as a nice difference to my other watches. Plus the colour of the metal looks so good with the dial, and works really well with the mesh (better than the 60th anniversary imho)

I have both

Prefer the NTTD, lighter and classier

I felt the same way about titanium watches until I bought a good value Citizen titanium dive watch. Then I got used to having a large light watch. When I tried on the Pelagos FXD, which is a big watch, the lightness was a feature. I also have some heavy steel watches like a Seiko Tuna SBBN049 and 2 other divers. Now it just depends what I’m in the mood for, heavy or light. You should probably buy what you like as second guessing yourself can be a risk.. but if you DO get the titanium, I expect you may come to appreciate the lightness, especially as titanium is increasingly common across all price points and thus less of a novelty or outlier.

·

If you want it to be YOUR watch, than it should be almost perfect, especially for the price.

If you already concerned about the lightness and already don't like how it feels, then it would be a pity to have a beautiful watch but you don't want to wear it.

·

You’ll adjust over time to what ever watch (weight, size etc) is on your wrist and it becomes your new normal.

So I would say, don’t over think it, get the one that excites you the most and gives you that special feeling when ever you look down at your wrist.

·

Not a fan of Titanium, for the reasons you said. Tried it a couple of times, just couldn't get used to it.

·

Titanium certainly isn’t for everybody. I’ve tried on a few grand seikos on titanium and as you say they feel cheap. I think it’s important it feels right on your wrist.

·

I love a good titanium watch. Im not a heft guy. I think light and durable is a good thing.

·

There actually is very little to compare. The Ti NTTD is not a SMP in the overall design except the obvious . Beyond that the TI either appeals to you or as you say it’s feels cheaper. It’s not but there is no point in that discussion. I think IMHO that the NTTD is currently the best wearing SMP in the catalog. I’ve posted a pic of a PO in Ti which comes close .

I purchased the NTTD when it was released and loved the look of it, but didn't wear it much as it felt as though I wasn't wearing anything. I subsequently traded it. I also own 2 x steel SMP Diver 300's and wear them both regularly.

Speaking of price, I can't believe how much the RRP has increased on the NTTD! I paid approx £7,500 for mine, new from an AD and its now £9,500. How can Omega justify that? The pre-owened prices aren't too bad mind.

I'd go for the steel SMP Diver 300m every day over the NTTD.

·

I personally prefer the NTTD mainly because of the design. I also think Titanium just adds to the image of the watch

Have the good planet and nttd too. Amazing how the different grades of titanium have such different finishes.

I have to admit I was not a fan of titanium watches but the NTTD changed that. I agree in the hand compared to the steal SMP300 it does feel a little toy like, and it did put me off But on the wrist it is the most comfortable watch I own. The combination of the mesh bracelet and the weight I genuinely forget I have it on. I also like the way it feels on my skin seems to warm to body temperature much better and hold it when in the cold.
