Great thread! Here is an example of a guide you'll want to look for from your manual if you want to really geek out about this stuff. For our Wildsider watch at Venturian, we use the Epson Solar Series VS22B-07 - Generally speaking, in great light — indoor or out — our watches last up to six months on a full charge after a full 6-8 hours. As for over-charging, the Epson states this in their manual, "If the secondary battery is charged more than predetermined voltage, over charge prevent function is operated to prevent the secondary battery deterioration and breakage." So you might find that in your watch offers that functionality, too. Further, the solar cell sits underneath the dial and needs to be somewhat transparent, they recommend at least 25% see-through.
