Which one should i / would you get?

So question is simple, my birthday is coming up, and looking for a nice watch for myself. I know these are 2 different world, point is I want a simple dressier type of watch, and since i cant really afford a nomos/junghans max bill without stretching my budget more than I'd like for a watch, these are the two candidates. I'm also open to your suggestions😇

Are you comfortable with a 34? Ali express and even Amazon are littered with inexpensive Bauhaus inspired watches.

I'd rather go something more reliable, but wouldnt want  to spend more than 300 dollars (500$ max if its love at first sight).

There are plenty of reliable watches on Ali. Low price doesn't always equal low quality.

I think Junkers or even Braun fill this void too. Both have roots in Bauhaus style.

Found a nomos tetra homage called Feice, seems like it has seagull movement in it, its 1/10 of the price, but idk I'm not a fan for homage watches, thats why I never looked at Invicta watches tbh

I would go with the Timex Marlin 1966 reissue.  Not a big fan of the California dial.  The Q Timex 1978 reissue is also a cool retro dress watch.  Waterbury also has some nice automatic and quartz dress watch which would be cheaper.  They are all really nice for many occasions.  The Marlin also comes in 40mm and don't rule out the Easy Reader which is always understated and can be an every day watch also.  I have some Timex watches from the 50s and 60s that are still running and have never been serviced

Go to the Timex site and check out all the models and lastly they always have sales going on.  In your price range it would hard to be Timex which has the name, history and heritage behind them.  I think its the best bang for your buck.

34mm is really small but then again, I really don't like Sternglas 😉

Yeah i was browsing timex watches for a long time now, and marlin was the perfect choice among the others due to having a small wrist (15cm or 5,9 inch wrist) its size is perfect for me.

For my taste their models are too directly inspired by watches like Junghans or Nomos.

I also don't like that they're heavy into the whole "affordable luxury" kind of marketing slogans.

If I'd be into Bauhaus style watches on a budget I'd rather buy another Chinese homage watch on AliExpress instead of a Sternglas. Or better, I'd look for a good deal on a Junghans Max Bill or Form Quartz. Or something from Laco's classics line.

But that's just my opinion, if you're into the watch, you're into the watch 😉

This is on Chrono24 for $440

I didn’t look through all the listings, so there may be other, better options.

Just a heads-up about the Braun - wears great, it has a small lug to lug, it's thin and lightweight. But it looks quite big on the wrist, I guess it's the 22mm band. My wrist is 17cm/ 6.7":

As usual, just get both!

I'm a sucker for a California dial; and the Timex interpretation is simply marvelous!

·

An all-dial 38mm would be too big for me. I used to have a 34mm Tudor Prince Oysterdate that I loved to death. My vote is for Timex (As long as you know that you like 34 as well).

·

A year ago I would have chosen the Sternglas without thinking too hard about it. Today, I feel more strongly about the Timex.

If your wrist size begins with a 6, the 34mm is not too small. I you can read the time at a glance it is big enough. We have wandered in the desert of too large watches for long enough.

·

I'm usually of the belief that if you are trying to pick between watches, neither one is the correct choice.  When you see the right one, it should be clear it's the right one.  Just my opinion, but I'd keep looking till you found one that really does it for you.

Yeah, I should be patient about it, until I find THE watch

·

I am odd one here in that I dig the California dial - so Timex for me if 34mm works on your wrist. Good luck 🤙

·

That Timex is really cool and it seems easier to read at a glance.

Solid point about the Timex Q - integrated bracelets are really fun and have a bit of a rage about them right now.

·

The California dial wins in my book - I love watches that can fill many roles and I think the sternglas is a bit limited in application. Just my opinion of course, we all upload some of our core style tenants into watch selections, but if you want something that wont look out of place in a T-Shirt or a sport coat alike, the cali dial slays

The Timex dial is far prettier.

·

This is the Marlin on a Vario strap. My wrist is just over 7 inches and I feel like I can pull this 👍

I have a Sternglas. Selling it actually to buy a Junghans. Personally, get the the Sternglas. It’s a quality timepiece with good specs and scratches that Bauhaus itch very well while not breaking the bank. I like the Timex, but I think the Sternglas will stabs the test of time in terms of longevity
