Zenith stood out to me!

I went to a few watch shops this weekend, as one does. This Zenith A385 revival really stood out to me! The gradient dial is just so pleasing to look at.

I played around with it a bit and noticed two interesting things:

  1. It has a slight jump of the chronograph second hand when engaging the chrono, similar to my Speedmaster. So I found out it’s a horizontal clutch (I gotta read up more on all the vertical vs horizontal clutch stuff).

  2. The time change is done on the FIRST notch pulled out and the date change is done on the SECOND notch out, which is the opposite of every other watch I’ve experienced so far.

I’m trying to find ways to justify going back and bringing it home. 😜

What are your thoughts on Zenith?

The watch itself is really cool. Zenith movement and build quality with a stunning dial design - you can’t go wrong. I’m just unsure of that semi exposed bracelet.

·

it's a great watch, you wont regret it.

Let us know of your final decision :)

I gazed at the white panda revival version serveral times. I finally endeded up with the sport. Both are great imo.

"SEMI EXPOSED BRACELET"? How dare you besmirch the legendary ladder bracelet of the venerable Gay Freres 😜. But seriously, speaking as a man with a hairy wrist, it does seem like it might be a dubious choice...

Yup, great brand, legendary movement, easily a rival to Rolex in terms of overall quality and you can even buy one. There and then. No wait. Gorgeous dial too - haven't seen that model in the metal so good to hear it doesn't just look striking in photos.

Zenith should be a rival to Rolex in terms of overall quality -- Rolex purchased and used de-tuned (from 36000 vph to 28800 vph) Zenith El Primero movements for years as the movement in their Daytona chronographs.

Yes, decades, I think. A tidbit it's always good to wheel out when someone wants to get pro-Rolex snobby.

These models (in different dials) is the best Zenith model 👌 On par or cooler than the SpeedMasters and Daytonas IMO

Haha. Just shows you how deep my watch knowledge goes. I’ve only been taking an interest in the last couple years and to be honest, I’m still getting into all the modern and current ranges out there. Haven’t worked my way back through the archives yet..

If I’m going down the Zenith path, I definitely want to keep the sport in the running too! I need to research Zenith a lot more. :D

Totally love Zenith especially the El Primero. In fact, the tri-color model on a bracelet is on a short list as my next purchase.

·

I love the Revival Panda. I tried it on, however was not sold at all on the ladder bracelet.

Zenith as a brand is one I am always interested in. They know what they specialize in (chrono graphs and high beat rates) and they are focusing on that niche. I wish I had the wrists for a Zenith Defy Extreme.

This one specifically:

love this watch.

What's not to love of the A385 Cappuccino! The El-Primero has a complicated movement and it would be good to learn about it because setting the watch wrong can prove to be a costly repair job.

Of course it didn't stop me from getting the A384 revival and still wishing to add this one to my collection (which may not be possible).

Just like the Farer, another one to admire from far away.......

So that's just a stunning watch! Smoke Show! Absolutely beautiful. The dial is incredible and the red second hand knocks it out of the park!

·

My favourite Zenith chronograph is the all black ceramic version , but it’s a Zenith I desire for a chronograph:)

·

Oh man! This is amazing! I can't stop thinking at the Lupin III with split colour dial...but way out of my reach 😔 I must try this one, on paper didn't do much to me, but saw it in person (not tried on) and it was mind blowing

How do you find the ladder bracelet? Did you get used to it?

I only tried on the watch for like a minute, but the ladder bracelet felt nice and light! I don’t know what my impression would be for lengthy wear with the ladder bracelet, but I think it would be just fine. This is unfortunately maybe out of my price point though..
