SOTC - GMT, Dress, Chrono

After about 2 years of collecting, I feel like I’m getting to a good place. These are the three watches that are in my main rotation:

  1. Rolex Explorer II 16750 Polar Dial (GMT - Swiss inline/lever - 39mm)

  2. Grand Seiko SBGY009 (Sports Dress - Spring Drive - 40mm)

  3. Omega Speedmaster Pro Moonwatch 3861 Sapphire Sandwich (Chronograph - Co-axial - 42mm)

The adding of an aftermarket Grand Seiko AA1B911J9 bracelet to the SBGY009 turned a formal dress watch into a much more accessible daily wearer.

The Casio G-Shock GW-5000U-1ER also gets a lot of wrist time when I go to the gym, swimming, mountain biking, surfing … or going into London!

I’m waiting for the updated Serica 5303 COSC - a 39mm 300m antimagnetic diving chronometer - to be delivered in September. Since I don’t dive, I thought investing in a Submariner or Seamaster was overkill.

Instead, in 2024, I’m thinking I might get a smaller, rectangular gold dress watch to celebrate my 50th:

  1. Cartier Tank Americaine 1740

  2. Jaeger-LeCoutre Reverso Duo Face Small Seconds

Cheers bud. It’s nice to have people appreciate the thought that goes into collecting.

I was never a big fan of the Omiwatari, but the SBGY009 is NEXT LEVEL! For whatever reason, I don't typically care about finishing on a movement, but the 9R31 is crazy sexy!

The SBGY009’s super subtle dial did it for me. But I also prefer the 44GS case. The blue croc strap it comes with is nice but limits its wearability. The aftermarket bracelet was a little tricky to track down but once on it was a classic ‘This is the way’ moment.

Great balanced collection if you don’t want a diver…just saying 🤪

I’ll see how I get on with the Serica. The Black Bay 54 is interesting too because it’s so svelte. I’ve built a few Seiko mod divers in the past and found that I didn’t wear them much. Bit too chunky.

Well done!

You have arrived at the good place.

Very nice collection.

A very solid foundation after only 2 years 🙂 i would suggest go for something more fun and out of the box next. Something like mad1, spaceone, louis erard w crazy dial 🙂 enjoy the hobby!

I have a MoonSwatch ‘Mission to Uranus’. Bought because I’m a 7 year old at heart… I like the idea of a Mad1 very much. Good shout.

You are a man who likes big names. I’d go for the JLC Reverso next. JLC is a big name, the Reverso is unique and a good conversation piece. “Hey, there’s no dial on your watch.”

Great collection! Very interesting and close to my own. Well done for the SERICA! I own the 8315 and it is very special, I love it!

Unless you get the Duoface! But yes, it feels like I’ve been lusting after one ever since I got into the hobby. Perhaps even before when I had a Apple Watch (like every other dude). Such classic design and real heritage. Dress up, dress down. 👌🏻

Very cool collection, love the look of your Grand Seiko. GS is slowly becoming a top alternative to the other mainstream brand especially for craftsmanship
