New Christopher Ward logo

Forgive me if this has been mentioned already but I couldn't see anything.

So it seems Christopher Ward are finally ditching their divisive branding and making their dual flag design their main logo. Their new C65 Aquitaine line uses this, and they've relaunched the Super Compressor line in the same way.

I've seen so many people say they like their watches but dislike the logo before. Personally I didn't mind their old branding as much as a lot of people, but I think this is a great move. Seriously considering a Super Compressor now.

Yeah it's a handsome watch for sure, and I appreciate the use of redundant technology just for the sake of doing it and making it work (as opposed to the many "Super Compressor style" watches out there).

Yeah I thought the CW logo at 9 on many of their models worked well and didn't really understand the hate from some people. I do really love the dual flag logo though, and I'm interested to see if the change translates into more sales.

·

In complete agreement. I thought the original logo was fine but prefer the new logo.

·

I’m one of those who avoided them because of the logo. I’m into the double flag logo. Those are great looking pieces. 👌

·

I really want to like Christopher Ward. They make quality time pieces and I applaud their dedication to the watch world. But I feel like they really struggle with their branding and identity. I do like the  Swiss cross logo they seem to be favoring but sadly, I suspect they will continue to try other logos.

As well, many of their watches are homages, and that’s a tricky line to walk.  At least to me, it seems like they can’t figure out their design language and so they lean on a homage because it will sell.

I keep rooting for them and wish them success, but I just doubt they will ever get their identity and branding act together.

I'm still in the camp of "Meh"

I definitely agree that branding seems to have always been their main struggle. Even with the plain logo text they've been using for the last few years, they've gone back to the older "CW" logo on some of their other models.

I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to experiment as you say. I think that would be a mistake though. They need one strong, recognisable logo and they need to stick with it.

·

That super compressor is definitely on my list, although, I am hoping the new logo makes it way the Trident series and I will very likely pull the trigger one of those then.

·

My biggest complaint about CW is that sometimes I look down at my trident and the logo makes it look like a fashion watch. I think the change is a step forward but I agree with others here their branding is a bit all over the place.

It is great them changing the logo, to me it showcases their journey, if you think about it, a startup watch maker want their brand to be recognised, thus using their name, then rework the name a bit, once the name get a bit of following or recognition, it is time to create a logo that can be associated with the name, and I think this is where Cward is at, they matured and is ready for wider audience, I must say I miss the old Christopher Ward brand, where Mr Ward send you a hand signed letter congratulating you on your purchase, felt really personal and that you part of something interesting.

·

The old branding never bothered me, and I actually rather liked it. It didn't look like every other watch, and the text at nine o'clock balanced the date at three. And I thought all the endless harping about it was just so much bandwagon jumping, and the way the logo took over every single mention of Christopher Ward was the bleating of lemmings.

That said, Mike France of Christopher Ward has said in a number of recent interviews that the logo plus wordmark was due to legal concerns, and they used both for a time to establish their claim to the trademark. Their intention from the beginning was to use the "twin flags" logo. Plausible enough, I suppose, but I kinda wonder if that's an after the fact story.

·

I couldn't care less about the branding, although I would argue branding has never been CW's strong suit. I don't really like the new logo either. But it's the design language that doesn't speak to me. For whatever reason, I have yet to see one of their watches that makes me do a double take. I've never seriously considered a CW watch, but not specifically due to the branding.

·

To me it looks like two Swatch logos next to each other. One regular and one inverted.

Anyone has experience with their Sealander Elite? I wonder what’s the durability of the push pop crown

·

Yeah, I hate the old logo, to the point that I outright wouldnt consider one.

The supercompressor, however, looks really smart, and im seriously considering it!

Exactly..!

·

I've never liked guys' names splashed across a dial, whether Christopher Ward, Dan Henry, or whoever else. Always smacked of ego, to me. This logo has always appealed to me when I've seen it in the past, so I think this is a good move.

·

I like this much better.  I was already considering one of the carbon(?) jams with the pop out crown, if they switch that one, I'm sold.

The CEO was recently on the Casual Watch Talk podcast, and he suggested that as a relatively new watch brand and to avoid rousing the ire of lawyers belonging to a certain Swiss watch group, that they use the brand name instead for a certain period of time, until they were established in the market.

I believe the twin crosses are meant to be the St George's Cross (England) and the Swiss Flag, representing CW's dual heritage.

·

The designs overshadow the brand logo for me with Christopher Ward.  With other brands like Ulysse Nardin and Zenith the inclusion of their logo is important to me.  I wish I could explain why.

·

ANOTHER logo for CW?

I didn't even understand the last change, which wasn't all that long ago.

·

Just the logo sans brand name = nope.

The trident reminds me of Maserati (fashion) watches. It distracts from the function (reading the seconds) by pulling your eye in the opposite direction. On top of being a bit blingy and what is it supposed to represent? Neptune, god of the sea? That’s kind of obvious/not subtle. At least Maserati have some history behind their trident

·

Definitely better, thought old logo and position was awful.

·

Well done CW big improvement now the logo doesn’t get in the way of the watches👍

·

This was the one small pet peeve I had about CW watches. Now, I can buy with confidence that the old logo will be on the rotor. Great move! The C1 Moonglow had changed to the new style anyway. That is what my next purchase will be.

·

I like the twin flag logo much better. what annoyed me is that I bought the sealander with the old branding and they just come out with the new logo on the sealander....

They recently said they had to do it for legal reasons. They wanted to go with the double flag from the start, but for legal reasons they had to play it safe for a few years and then use it.
