I prefer mechanical watches over quartz, but quartz has its place and I own a couple and appreciate them.

I also appreciate automatic watches for obvious reasons, but I have really grown to prefer manual wind movements. I like the interaction with the watch and fewer moving parts means fewer problems (at least in my own experience).

Ha! I hate when that happens! 😂

Interesting question and one I've thought about as well. I think it's a different number for every person. There are people I've heard of that aspire to have 365 watches! That's way too much for me, but to each his own.

I have two 6-piece watch boxes and for whatever reason, 12 really feels like a good number for me. It might go higher some day, but so far, when I add one watch, it often feels time to let one go as well.

I can say that I absolutely feel the need to wear all of my watches and so 12 seems to be the right number for me to enjoy the rotation.

Some might not get worn more than once or twice a year, but they're keepers nonetheless.

Based on your criteria, I would lean heavily towards Seiko. They have history and heritage. As well, they offer many models that can handle all sorts of environments and still be suitable for a dinner out.

Plus they make fine watches at affordable pricing.

Yes, I am frequently very impressed with Hamilton as a brand. 👍🏽

First, congrats on the new life you’re starting. And this is an interesting and unique problem! Not really sure, but I think you could ship several insured to a trusted friend. And take the rest in a padded carry on. In regards to TSA, maybe bring any receipts you have, and other forms of validation that you simply are a watch collector. 🤷‍♂ Best of luck!

Fwiw, I used to not have a preference, but now, I can say without question, I prefer a No Date. For 2 reasons:

1) I've had 2 ETA movements with the date complication fail on me and I am reasonably convinced that the date complication played a role in their failure.

2) They're just plain easier to set.

But that's just me. I absolutely understand their functionality and do appreciate those who prefer them.
