CWC SBS diver

So about 5 minutes ago I put down £700 on a CWC SBS quartz diver. Been thinking about it for ages and saw many positives and negatives but ultimately I decided to pull the trigger. In one way it's overpriced (you can get similar specs for less than half the price - it's quartz after all), but on the other it seems worth it to me ( a 300m milspec diver that is currently issued to the Royal Navy Special Boat Service - the sort of genuine military provenance that most brands can only dream of). I can't wait for it to arrive, but I'm interested to hear other watchcrunchers perspective, good or bad.

well, couple of questions:

is it a former army issue or a homage? I quite like having a former army issue one. I bought my 1991 CWC G10 from the guy it was issued to, so it was quite nice to keep it going surplus to requirements. If it’s homage then…

do you like it? Bottom line if yes, then f*** it. Post a pic, I’m jealous because I still think I want one of these.

I knew a fellow who'd been in the SBS, I hope the watch is as tough as he was ! Love them tool watches👍

It's currently issued to the SBS. As far as I understand it's been an issued watch for the British Navy since 1987.

Thanks for responding so fast anyway guys. I'll certainly post pics when it arrives.

Definitely a cool watch. Sure, there are tons of cheaper options that are quality watches, but there's only one CWC. It sounds like the military heritage is valuable to you and arguably no other brand (maybe Marathon) can match it, so congratulations on the new watch!

Sometimes a watch is more than the specs, the CWC SBS sounds like one of those times.

I've never been exposed to CWC watches, being from across the pond, but I feel the same way about Marathon watches. They have a real, and current connection to military service, and specs that other more famous brands no longer have.

I look forward to seeing the pics when it arrives.

Arrived today. I think this will become my beater, retiring the trusty Glycine Combat Sub.

I mean if it can survive the Egerton Arms in Stockport, it can pretty much survive anywhere!

Have to say fair play to you, always wanted one but far too expensive. Wish I bought it off the guy who got nicked for selling them. Was a clerk on a navy warship lol
