The movement is not sealed. This is a very good question. I am thinking of put some glass over ist. But I think it will ruin the aesthetic

If something gets inside, it will gum it up. Just clean it out, all it needs to do is run, accuracy doesn't matter at all here. I wouldn't scrub it with a toothbrush or anything, but maybe a sonic cleaner and a couple well-placed drops of oil if your brave. It's probably dry of oil anyways though, so might just skip that step.
