Ladies watch suggestions

Looking to treat the Mrs to her first watch, but don’t have a clue where to start so I’m open to suggestions, brands, styles sizes? (I assume 34mm maybe smaller) anything really.

A little bit of back ground, she’s quite petite, and has a sort of boho gothic style, so won’t embrace diamonds or traditional “girly” watches?

Thanks for any help!

I really like the Tudor 1926. You could get his and hers matching 😉

Been looking at a 1926 for myself, really smart watch 👍

I have observed - as a massive generalization - that the pre-owned market for ladies watches is much slacker than it is for mens watches. Which means that there are great discounts to be had on ladies pre-owned watches.

Obviously for watches where the value is in the jewellery content (e.g. gold and diamonds) that doesn’t hold so much and there may be a couple of brands that buck the trend but I would say have a good look at pre-owned as there is really good value there.

What’s the budget?

·

As @TimeOnMyHands mentioned, there definitely seem to be more bargains to be had in the ladies pre-owned market - I've managed to personally benefit from this by picking up a pre-owned (only 6 months old and as new condition) 34mm Aqua Terra for a huge discount on retail.

The other thing I would say is do try and get her to try a few on if at all possible.

Some suggestions from me at various price points (you don't mention budget?) off the top of my head:

  • Rolex OP 34, or pre-owned 34mm OP date or air king

-Tudor black bay (either the new 31/36 or if budget is tight look at a pre-owned 32), Royal 34mm or maybe 28/36mm 1926 if she prefers more dressy.

-Seiko presage 34mm

-Rado Coupole 34mm

  • Omega AT or Devile 34

  • Longines master collection 34

  • Tissot PRX 35

And you can't go wrong with Cartier - but if you can't stretch to a Tank, Seiko, longines and Oris all do nice rectangular

Other thoughts …

34mm does bring in a host of mens vintage watches that again are not expensive as they are small for today’s tastes. Note stock photos below not my watches. Obviously recently serviced and some warranty is best for vintage.

Finally the Vario trench watch is a little large at 37mm but with the spacious fixed lugs it is easily worn on single pass fabrics, ribbons, silks, etc. (without the need to fiddle with spring bars) and there are a number of colour ways and it certainly has a gothic vibe without being as fragile as a real trench watch. Just note the lug to lug measurement though as it’s quite large due to those spacious spring bars.

Final tip - involve her don’t surprise her!

... I've gone down the rabbit hole... If you'd want to go the Microbrand route there are also some interesting options - Traska Commuter comes in 34mm. Or Abingdon watch company do sportier watches purely for women - I think there's a 33mm there somewhere.

My wife is not much of a watch person but does own a few acquired over the years, she is physically the same height as your Mrs perhaps her wrists are thicker has always preferred slightly bigger watch cases. The trend seems to be bigger for the ladies, my sis in law was recently gifted a Patek for her 40th wedding anniversary a proper 36mm gold case size. My suggestion is not limit your options to 34mm and smaller. Surprises are amazing but with a watch, I suggest shopping for the item together whether it be on line or in a brick and mortar shop. Cartier, Omega, Rolex, Longines or my family’s first choice: Breitling. Good luck.

my wife isn't a watch person like we are (luckily), but i did get her a preowned omega deville. it's gold plated, from the 80's, quartz, 32mm & thin. it cost me like $500. and she loves it. maybe go that route? just a thought...

I purchased my partner an Omega Constellation Quadrella.

She likes a little sparkle with her watches.

There are many good deals on preloved ladie’s Omegas out there.

I’m embarrassed to say how inexpensively I got this watch.

She loves it.

I have turned her into a watch person.

After this one grabbed a Gucci and Tiffany at great prices too. Lots of choices out there.

Definitely keep in mind how petite she is and her style and lifestyle.

I learned, kind of the hard way, ladies might not always appreciate a mechanical watch as much as a fellow will. Just my experience.

The quartz my partner has see much more wrist time.

I would check out The Abingdon Watch Co. Women owned watches that are sized and designed for women.

Longines dolce vita

Hands down the DolceVita in quartz is a great option. at the sub $2k price point it is more appealing than the quartz Cartier tank or a JLC reverso which can cost 3-4x more

Tank wears really flat on the wrist. DolceVita is much more aan organic kind of shape.

It really depends on the budget. If it allows there really isn't anything better you can do than bring her along to a Carrier Boutique. Trust me, that goes a long way!! 😜😉
