Murph vs Big Crown

The introduction of the Murph in 38mm peaked mine and a lot of other peoples attention. The cathedral hands and the wearable case make this watch an intriguing choice for an everyday watch. I didn’t initially pull the trigger as already I own a Khaki Field Auto, and they are just so similar in that one of them makes the other obsolete. Then I took another gander at the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date. With grey market prices about $300 more than the Murph, is that the better option?

A Big Crown is on my list...

I prefer the Oris, but both are very good watches. Buy the one that appeals most to your heart.

I am hoping they come out with one in a white or cream dial with the cathedral hands. I have too many black and blue dial watches.

I like Hamilton and like the Murph, but the Oris takes this easily imo. A watch with a fairly unusual complication from a truly independent brand, plus a more easily serviced movement and better finishing. No brainer.

Before the Murph I would have said Oris has the best cathedral handset in the business. But the Murph. Oh, the Murph...

·

This style of watch is really my bag*

I think the Oris just takes it for me.

(* I appear to have turned into Austen Powers)

I have to go with the Murph, partly because I'm a Hamilton FanBoy, but more because I'm not at all fond of pointer dates (don't hate them, just don't particularly like them).

·

The Oris is definitely a far better, much superior, beyond comparison with the Murph. So much better you shouldn't even compare them at all, for sure.

Oh, did I forget to mention, I own an Oris?😉\

Truthfully, you can't go wrong here.

Never had the Murph on wrist. Great watch. But I’m never selling my BCPD.

They did. See the post above.

Same here.

Yep…I’ve seen the Roberto Clemente, but they changed the dial enough that it’s not what I’m looking for. Thanks though!

Oris makes fantastic watches. I own 3. Your post inspired me to wear one today.

I'm always drawn to Hamilton, but whenever I try on, they never seem to deliver in reality. The AR coating is always a let down too.

Oris on the other hand, seem to do the opposite! Deliver above and beyond. I own an Aquis Date, which has been great over the years.

Oris all day long for me!

Mine is an older one. I brought this when my dad passed away as a way of remembering him. Doesn't get much wrist time recently, but it's a keeper for sure!

I’ve got a number of Hamiltons in my collection and also an Oris Big Crown and I would take the Oris without hesitation between these two. If you can find it for $300 more than grab it!

Just bought this one a couple of months ago, can't say enough good about it. For the first time in over 5 yrs of collecting, I'm already considering buying another BCPD, they come in so many beautiful colors. The Murph is nice, but not in Oris territory. I should mention a Hammy titanium is probably going my next purchase.

·

I think that you should consider buying both at some point.

I have Murph 38 and it's awesome, can't get enough of this watch. But it has black dial. And BCPD comes in different colors and materials. So you can get yourself a black dial and a funny dial. The burgundy one is a 100% stunner.
