What are some quirks of watch collectors?

Given watch collectors are some of the quirkiest people you'll ever meet, what are some quirks of watch collectors?

For example, there are watch collectors who will freak out that a cheap Seiko watch 'only' has a Hardlex crystal as if it's the biggest, most earth-shattering error for Seiko to have made... then in the next breath say how much they love a $10k Speedmaster... with Hesalite protecting its dial. And they'll see no contradiction with this at all.

What have you come across?

People criticising Chinese homage watches while proudly showing off their whatever brand homage watch that cost a few hundred bucks more.

Collectors will endlessly chase accuracy and a huge power reserve, and then wear a new watch each day, winding and setting each one every morning.....

It's having to wear a tin foil hat that gets to me!

Speaking of "quirky" 😁

I've seen a few:

Scowling at quartz watches, yet gushing over spring drive and apple watches, when all are regulated by a vibrating quartz crystal.

Obsessing over saturation-diver level water resistance, when the the wettest that watch is going to get is in the deep-end at the local swimming pool.

Spending £10k on a "tool watch", only to cry like a baby when it gets scratched

Thinking divers actually rely on Rolexes/Seamasters when almost all use purpose-built dive computers

Addendum - spending £20k on watches and other jewellery you don't really want, just so you can buy a Rolex at retail.

Ah, yes, heritage.

Also for some, they don't like celebrities endorsing watches, but Bond watches are cool.

Buying every variation of a specific watch even though they all have the same movement inside and nobody else can see any difference except the colour or layout of the dials.

Spending every spare moment looking at more watches on the internet when you've already filled fourteen 26-grid watch boxes and still only wear a Casio F-91W when you leave the house.

Joining the WatchCrunch forum because, you know, it's about watches, even though you never intend to post on it or read what anyone else has written, especially if you're also a YouTuber.

Wearing t-shirts with your favourite watch brand logos on them even though you don't actually wear any watches belonging to that brand or will ever own one.

Looking down on the insta-collectors who have bought everything that every influencer has ever recommended to them in only a few months, while you currently have watchlists and wishlists full of hundreds of the same watches which you are about to "pull the trigger" on.

Searching the carpet for hours to find yet another lost springbar even though you've bought a box of a gazillion new ones just in case you ever lose one.

The youtube one made me laugh so much

I’ll never understand why people get bent out of shape over small details like an unsigned crown.

Okay, maybe “bent out of shape” is a little hyperbolic, but I see people complain about that on a regular basis, and I do not get it.

Most of the other points I’d add have already been covered, but I will reiterate that it’s crazy how people complain about a watch ~only having 100m of water resistance. For 99% of us on this forum, that’s more than enough.

Talking to complete strangers from all over the world about tiny obsolete wrist worn machines on a website set up specifically for that purpose is pretty niche 😜

Starting the journey with an homage watch, then later scorning those who post a WWC with an homage watch.

It certainly ain’t right, but many, especially content creators, do just that.

Spending time getting that perfect dial/strap combo, that really makes things "pop", only for nobody to notice while out and about....lol.

I just got a brand new StrapHabit FKM tropic for my Zodiac to replace the Uncle Seiko tropic I’d worn out, and not one person noticed! Ffs people, this one has two keepers! Two! AND it’s quick release!

Disrespectful. 😂
