Pretty Girard-Perregaux from the 70s

/post 4 of 4/ I've started a 70s collection and I've got to tell you, it is not easy finding GPs from that era in an almost pristine state. The enamel...

You cared enough about this stranger's opinion to reply, though.

What applies to you doesn't necessarily applies to other lives.

Picture this though, "manager Bondage go lay off half of your team, budget cuts, money is tight..." There goes manager Bondage to give the bad news to his team... "Money is tight yo, so the following names are going byebye "... He does so with his 10k+ Rolex Submariner, that he uses as a beater, mind you .. on his wrist, but he doesn't care what others think so, no harm, he's a happy camper.

Wether we like it or not, watches send a message, some louder than others. You may say 'who cares' depends on your situation. But I don't think your situation can be applied to everyone, everywhere, any time.

Sometimes is just daft and tone-deaf to pretend we don't care.

I wear a suit every day, sometimes I get nice comments, and sometimes mockery, I don't care. I wear nice watches and all, but would I wear a Submariner as a beater?

Again, no. Good for you if you would. Godspeed 🙂

You are right, I totally ignored the independent term.

If we lived in a vacuum or in an alternate universe where it wouldn't be an object of desire for myriads of thieves why not.

Rolex watches are way too notorious, to be honest nobody is looking at you anymore you become the Rolex with some guy, and or the only thing people will remember from you is that you were wearing a Rolex, yes, it is a status symbol, and a huge fashion statement like a Bugatti or wearing a silk suit.

For those reasons: no.

I read it as 'belongs to' but I get the humour.

@PoorMansRolex do you think it is related to the Swatch acquisition?
