Classical beauty: Girard-Perregaux Richeville from the 90s

I got this well-preserved GP because I've always loved the following particular characteristics on watches, there are of course more characteristics that I enjoy, not only the following list, depending of the type of watch.

However to find so many elements that I find appealing gathered in a single watch is a special kind of Nirvana.

Here they are, in no particular order:

  1. Roman numerals - check

  2. Symetry - check

  3. Guilloché - check

  4. Steel case - check

  5. Goldilocks sizing - check

  6. Breguet hands - check

  7. Chronometre - check

  8. No date window - check

  9. Stellar movement .............😉 - check

  10. Tonneau body - check

  11. Art Déco aesthetics - check

It was in a box when I saw Cartier launch the 2nd reissue of the Cartier Tortue Monopoussoir which I think GP were aiming for back in the 1990s, I am not talking about the reissue of the late 90s. I am talking about the orignal from 1928.

Probably Cartier in the 90s saw GP release a very similar watch that they had in 1928 they scrambled to reissue it.

I cannot blame GP, the items I've mentioned can indeed be universally adopted by any watchmaker worth their salt.

In my opinion GP they did so exquisitely and with refined gusto.

I was aiming to get a collection of all the variations but when I started looking at the absolutely crazy prices I said, nah... I've got other watch adventures to aim for.

Cheers
