Opinions on Pagani Design?

As much as I love the designs of Omega and some Rolexes, the fact is, for me, they are just too much money. I don't have thousands of dollars laying around to blow on a watch, and to spend all that money anyway on one sounds insane to my wallet.

After doing a bit of research, I've seen some Pagani design watches that look very close to what I'm looking for. Specifically, the Omega seamaster steel on steel. It looks great, other than the crystal not having antireflective coating. But, other than the branding, it looks great. On the other hand, it feels a bit wrong to buy a cheap Chinese copy of something that someone else made. What are your options? It's not like I can buy either rn lol

As you say not everyone has the money but if it's a design you like and your happy with it then go for it. It's not like it's trying to be a direct copy/fake so don't worry.

There are so many copies of other watches out there, even by the big names themselves, people don't complain about them so why should you worry.

Dude, if you like the look, you should absolutely get the Pagani Design.  Why not?  I just looked it up on Amazon, and they look phenomenal.  And they've got NH35 movements inside 'em, which are great, reliable workhorse movements.

When it comes to watches, there just ain't that many designs out there.  Everybody is copying everybody else.  The only reason people have a problem with Pagani Design or whoever copying their beloved brand's (Rolex, Omega, whatever) watch designs with heritage and prestige, is because snob gonna snob.  F*ck 'em.

I mean, you wanna talk about somebody ripping off another company's design?  How come nobody is calling out Patek Philippe for this obvious rip off?  My guess is that if you're a snob, it's okay for your snob brand to copy others.  But, somehow, it ain't allowed in the other direction?

I never realized how many of these name brands copy from each other. I've always just kind of assumed they made their own thing.

I'm new to this watch thing if you couldn't tell. I always assume that it was big brands that make their own designs and cheap Chinese brands that copy. But that patek Philippe is uncanny save for the date function. Besides, now I think about it I do own a Invicta pro diver. And that's just a Rolex submariner clone. And a good one at that

Whatever you get from china make sure its got a Japanese movement. The home grown movements are designed well but put together badly with no quality control. I buy the Chinese movements because i service them when i get them to make them good. No oil and dirt is the usual affliction.

It's hilarious, but certain brands would LOVE everyone to believe "the narrative" that "Our company was the first to do X, and everyone else is just copying us."

On dive watches, ISO certification constrains design significantly.  There are only so many ways to skin the cat and still meet the certification requirements.  Check out the watches in this link:

An even crazier illustration is the "Dirty Dozen" watch manufacturers that were building to British MOD spec:

It's the same with Type 20 watches, etc., etc.

It's astounding to me how we, as a society, have bought into this whole fiction about the lone genius who's come up with a sui generis design, that nobody has ever thought of before...  that lone genius sat for weeks in a cave subsisting on nothing but crackers, water, and his genius.  Everyone else is simply copying from the designs of the lone genius.  Uh, no.  Everyone's pulling ideas out of the existing mixture of ideas - different technological innovations enable us to do new things, and new designs sprout up, given the new things we're able to do with materials and machining techniques...  and everyone rushes forward to pretend that they were the lone genius to get all the credit and the royalties for their lone genius-ness.

I picked up a couple in a bulk watch purchase on ebay a few years ago to get an old casio I used to own.  A "GMT Master 2" black and a "blue sub." I saw them on JOMW and decided to give them a try since they were sold as a group with the casio. Movement is fine, within specs but will lose about 10/15 secs a day. Bracelets are meh. Better than Seiko, but some sharp edges. Solid end links though. Loom is garbage. The cyclops is useless on both.  The sub's case is actually a sea dweller size, so it was too big for me at a 42mm. They are a decent watch with some good specs, but you can tell the difference in feel compared to a seiko or similar.

I see nothing wrong with Pagani Designs and other Chinese brands on AliExpress that primarily do homages. I have a couple of the Pagani Designs "Mocktail Time" watches, an automatic and a quartz. Well, my wife has the quartz. She pilfered it out of my collection. 😂 We both like these watches, and you are getting a pretty solid build and pretty good quality control with Pagani Designs.

Further, several of the microbrands I have purchased watches from are not that different from Pagani Designs. I really like the watches Marc at Long Island Watch releases and have a number of Islanders in my collection, but they are primarily homages. How different in appearance is my #ISL-38,

from this Pagani Designs dress watch?

Not much really.

Those PDs are seemingly sharp. When I cash in my piggy bank I think I'll go for one.

Nice homage watches out there with good specs, some better then most. Don't let shade rob you of a quality buy or a cool watch. You should check out the Sugess Top Chronograph, she's on fire!!

·

I really don't have much to add, but they're really good for the money.. If you liked them, go buy it!

I bought a used pagani Aqua terra just because it was 50 bucks and I one-day wanted to get an omega. Long story short is the pagani had amazing build quality and specs for the money ( even the new price) but I soon realised I didnt like the overall style of the watch and it looked more like a dress watch so I turned around and sold it. I never looked at an omega Aqua Terra again.

It is a dilemma. But the movements are first class. Certainly an excellent Seiko in mine I believe. A really good watch upgraded with a great bespoke  strap from Strapatelier, which cost 75% of the watch but is magnificent. I’m proud to wear it

I've got the pro diver too.A customer in the timber yard I work in thought it was a Rolex!

My experience has been, personally, that homages of watches that are iconic AND easily distinguished at a distance make me feel really self conscious that someone will come up to me and ask me about it. This happened once with a Doxa watch. The guy was cool but I was like "I'd rather have had the real one..." Other times, like with my Pagani Design explorer homage, it's just a "bland" and simple design enough that it's not noticeable. I've frozen it and drowned it and it's held up really well. Of course I'd love the real one, but i can likely save up for the Doxa while I feel like I may never be able to get an explorer.

Not bad. Have 3 and the PD1723 is my favorite. Pretty close to unique style as it’s biased off a 1950’s Air King.

This arrived today, and after sizing the bracelet, I'm really starting to enjoy it.
