Bracelet Sizing

Question for you guys...I typically size my bracelets by trying to make each side of the head of the watch as even as I can. If I remove 4 links, then I typically do two per side. I thought this was normal until a buddy of mine removes more from a particular side on purpose...I never thought of this. What do you guys do? Is there an advantage in how we size the bracelets?

My wrist size seems to dictate removing links unevenly, so what I'll do is remove an extra link on the side that faces me, so the watch has a natural inclination towards my eyes.

·

I’ve found that taking the same number of links from each side sometimes leaves the clasp off-center. This isn’t a huge deal, but it can make the watch feel like it’s not balanced correctly.

I wouldn’t worry about it, if even links feels ok, go with it.

·

I close the clasp and try to make it parallel with the watch head (or as close as I can get it). On my Skx for example that meant taking two from the 6 o’clock side because of how the clasp is.

·

Depends on the type of clasps. I do remove more from one side if the hidden part of clasp only folds to one side because I don't want to have it poking out and affecting the bracelets ability to hug the wrist.

·

So far I have found that I need to remove 3 links and use the micro adjustment (if there are any) in order to get a snug fit.

·

It depend on the wrist and on the clasp. Wrists are not always symmetrical, mine isn't for sure, and the length of the clasp can cause it to be off center which is awkward and not very comfortable.

·

Your wrist is a bit thinner on the 6 a clock side, that face you... And you can easy see that, if you look "around" from your hand side... So its normal to have one or even several less links on that side - to center the lock under your wrist...

And it was recently a poll about this, where many did observe / notice the same...

Most of mine are asymmetric but it's different on different watch's and bracelet's.

·

Evenly on both sides, I can’t even imagine doing it the other way!

·

I used to work at a watch shop. When I was taught to size bracelets I was taught (by a professional watchmaker) to remove them evenly but if an odd number of links had to be removed the extra should be in the six o’clock side of the watch.

but, in the end everyone’s wrist and personal comfort are different so you do what the customer wants.

for myself I do it evenly unless it ends up uncomfortable when I’m done.

·

If its a particularly heavy watch case, then I will often remove more links from the 12 side of the case so that the clasp will be higher up and pull the strap down on the underside of my wrist, balancing the case a little when I read the time.

(I know the description is bad, but hope you get the idea!)

Here is a pic I took last time this came up. This feels right on my Speedy.

I'm a leftie, so I tend to have the band on the 12 o'clock side a bit shorter to keep my clasp centered. Though honestly, I don't know if it makes any difference unless keeping the 2 sides even is really important to you. I say do what you are most comfortable with.

·

It really comes down to a case by case basis; but if I have more links on one side of the bracelet it is usually the outer side.

·

I try to center the clasp as best I can on the underside of my wrist. That means I generally remove more links from the 6 o’clock end of a bracelet than from the 12 o’clock end. In your example of removing 4 links, I would likely take 3 from the 6 o’clock side and 1 from the 12 o’clock side.
