Super Compressor watches
While i was at the Wind Up Watch Fair in Chicago i got to see the pre re-release of the Benrus Ultra Deep. I never thought i would like the look of the two crown system but, this one was very attractive in person. Now that i have seen one IRL I think to myself, should add a “super compressor” to my collection?

Have a look at vintage EPSA case watches… the original super compressor watches ( Ervin Piquerez S.A. )
I have a couple - I wear the Nodus a lot more because I use the 12 hour bezel while traveling. I am still considering the Longines Legend and the Alpina Seastrong 300 heritage. The Alpina was the watch that started me down the compressor style rabbit hole.
Is this watch an actual Super Compressor? Because the term “Super Compressor” is one that is quite often misused these days. Most people associate Super Compressor (SC) with any watch that has dual crowns and an internal rotating bezel, but it’s not that simple. Super Compressor is a trademarked name for specific case designs made by the case manufacturer Ervin Piquerez S.A. (EPSA). They designed a patented case sealing method that actually became more water tight the deeper the watch went. The deeper you went, the more pressure was applied to the case-back, pressing it against the O-ring gasket. I have that style of watch in the Traska Seafarer. I love the internal rotating bezel and I ended up ordering two.

While not a super compressor style case, I believe OG Vostoks are the same.
Ill also add Elliot Brown and Sangin into the mix.
My issue with this style case & bezel is that it wears big. Make sure you try it on first!

I find super compressors a bit hit and miss, I had a Spinnaker Bradner and a Dan Henry 1970 and despite the fact that they’re actually okay watches I just couldn’t get into them, but I found this Farer
And I’m really happy with it.
If you’re just wanting a dual crown watch there’s quite a few pilot watches that do that and have more of the traditional shape but with 2 crowns.
Love super compressor style watches...both real super compressors and ones that just look like them.
