Never check them in with your luggage. N-E-V-E-R!
Buy a watch roll or some sort of container and bring them in your carry-on luggage or backpack. TSA officers are used to seeing this so they won’t give you any fuzz. Also, TSA officers are ok with you not taking your watch off when going through security checks. They know these things cost money (sometimes a lot of money).
