I bought the Seiko Land tortoise.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about the seiko land tortoise, the tldr was I have no use for a watch of that style, rugged, water resistant, etc. But we buy watches because we want them, not need em.

Spent a week mulling it over until I found one for around $300 USD on Amazon and pulled the trigger... Then cancelled the order before it shipped.

Yeah, this is a clickbait post.

There was no love when I went back to the order, when there's usually anticipation, excitement, there was just remorse.

It's not my style of watch and my heart knew it, so I ended buying another watch from a private seller on Chrono24.

The Oris rectangular anthracite dial.

Now this is more like it!

Maybe the moral of the story is to buy what you love (duh) and not buy to check boxes, you don't need a different type of watch for every occasion, the most water resistance on any of my pieces is 100 meters (not even screw down crown) and you know what I'm fine with that.

Had a good laugh over this one. I was about to throw compliments at the Seiko but I'd rather use them on that Oris.

My initial thoughts are that the watch is awesome and perfectly proportionate, it's one of the smaller rectangle watches but fits perfectly on my 6 and 3/4 inch wrist. The dial and case construction have a cool retro aesthetic, but aren't too dressy. Movement is a good ol ETA.

Negatives would be the price, around 1900 USD at retail is way too much, get it pre-owned, I paid 900 for this one and think that's the average these trade for, second negative are the straps on this model and on the white one, construction is great but the color choices are a bit off.

I also don't like roman numerals which most watches of this style tend to have, so this was the perfect one for me. I would have gone for the white dial if I didn't already had a white dial watch that I wear a ton, white dials are the most versatile in my opinion.

Hope some of these thoughts help your decision :)

I love that both of these pieces are so far apart from eachother on the watch spectrum. This hobby of ours really takes us for a ride sometimes.

Nice save!  I've had that momentary remorse as well and to cancelled orders moments after putting them in.

I've done the same thing, but reversed - been over excited and almost bought a watch, only to cancel it last minute since the water resistance seemed too weak and /or the crown didn't screw.😂.  My watches will routinely get wet and occasionally torture tested in some way.

Happily, each to our own! Some of the 200m or more club:

I enjoyed the ride that post took us on.

Congrats on the Oris, That's a beauty!

😆You had me at canceled the order before it shipped. The Oris is a lovely watch. 👌

I can understand this because for me the land tortoise is a blank. I don't like it, I don't hate it and I can't even remember that it exist. It's a non entity with a Seiko badge and I would not spend a cent to get it even if I was told that the movement had a 1000 hours power reserve and the bezel is made of unobtainum and perfectly aligned.

That Oris is really cool!

Yep, I was at a point where most of my watches were dressy and thought I needed something more rugged, but that's ot the case. If you want all your watches of the same style that's what you do and that's okay.

It does.

hahaha felicidades. That was a good twist ending. I see lots of square watches these days, they seem to be catching on.

The Vario Versa ones seem cool as well.
