Hey guys! super happy to be joining the community, feels like the early days of watch forums in the best possible way! long time watch enthusiast, watchmaker, I first fell in love with watches as an engineering student after seeing some of the crazy mechanical marvels that independents like MB&F, Urwerk, and Greubel Forsey were doing. At the time there was no way I could ever afford pieces like that so I recreated a 3D model of Urwerk's UR-202 and ultimately 3D printed a working 'homage' to scratch the itch.
Many years have passed since my college days and have now been fortunate enough to purchase one of my grail pieces, an Urwerk UR103.03 in white gold. I know these designs arent everyones cup of tea, but always loved the 103s ability to feel like an instant classic, something that feels like it was designed in the 1930s era of art deco, but also looks like a futuristic spaceship. the time is super easy to read, with a driver style display that you can see from an angle. in the picture is reading 10:25.
I could ramble about this piece forever but Urwerk was truly ahead of its time launching this in 2003 before independent watchmaking and avant garde design was really a thing in the watch industry. caseback also features a super cool adjustment system where you can adjust the accuracy from the caseback yourself if its running a bit fast or slow. Also the lume is killer.
Anyways, I think its really cool that watchmaking can cover so many different expressions of the same art. on one side you have the amazing classical work of people like George Daniels and FP Journe, united by the same passion as the crazy contraptions of MB&F and Greubel Forsey. Super happy to be joining the watchcrunch family here and curious what independent brands you guys really resonate with?

Yeah I’ve been wanting the Farer for a while now and I’m really happy with it. Echo/Neutra are a small Italian microbrand. They design their watches in Italy and have them made in Switzerland. They make some very nice pieces.
