A Diver on a leather strap?

I sometimes hear that this is stupid because leather isn't water proof.

What do you think?

I have one of mine on a leather as it’s so comfortable, if I was going into the water with it (highly unlikely) then onto rubber

·

I'm not sure how I feel about that. It also kind've depends on the leather.

·

If you are a desk diver, I do not see a problem. Going into the water is not practical as it will ruin it in no time.

·

Routinely wear a diver on one of my Zane's Handmade now that I was actually able to get one 😂.

It’s a bit daft from the perspective of ‘the watch will survive, but I will likely wreck this strap…’ but, Sean Bean as 006 in GoldenEye wore a Seamaster on black leather, and that was Omegas first go on the Bond sponsorship train. So guess they don’t mind, and will likely sell you a leather nato.

·

If you're diving with it, of course you wouldn't wear it on leather. I don't understand the fuss over desk divers that never see the water, though.

·

With the right strap definitely!

·

I used to put any strap I want on any watch. Then I started looking at my collection and going it just looks odd to have leather on a diver or rubber on a chrono or NATO on a dress watch. Get my drift,

I just think that divers should be bracelet or rubber or Nato, Chronos should be leather or bracelet and dress should be leather. Just my opinion.

Now appropriate strap, bracelet on the appropriate style watch.

·

Only exception: vintage divers that can’t be near water. But I won’t critique someone that loves dive watches on leather, either.

·

Looks good on vintage pieces that won't see the water anyway, but I'll wear my Planet Ocean on steel.

·

I think some slim vintage divers can even pull off "formal" leather straps, like sleek shiny straps. Other than that, I think a lot of divers can work on more rugged styles of leather, like the kinds you might find more commonly on pilot/field watches, matte leather nato type stuff. That's how I feel anyway, which doesn't mean anything to anyone else.

Well... if you put it like this I am convinced :D

My Invicta Pro Diver is on a SUEDE leather strap.

If you're not gonna swim/dive with it, who cares what strap is on it?

·

A black dial diver on leather looks so freaking good. I don't understand the problem people have. If you're going to go swimming with it, sure, put it on something other than leather. But 99% of the time, people rocking a diver are doing so day to day on land. If you don't plan on going in water, why not rock a diver on leather if you like it?

Divers are actually quite a niche group, a minority anywhere in the world i think 😅. But yea I get the point that there's not much people diving nowadays. I myself is under a swim academy, while I don't really have to go deep but i am quite familiar with the group. In these generation nowadays i am confident that majority of divers are now wearing a dive computer on their wrist or even Apple Watch Ultra. It's super rare to find divers that wear a diver's watch these days except for a few enthusiasts.

Yes and no, most divers I've met in the tactical community have a wrist watch of some flavor, G Shock to Tudor, not for backup per se but for when inevitably one leaves the water for other activities! 🤏🏻🤔😉

·

Ask yourself the question : how many hours do the divers (I mean the underwater going people, not watches) spend diving each week or each month ? And how many hours do they spend doing no diving related activities (driving a car, shopping, sleeping, riding a bicycle,...) ?

this gives your answer

If the case and bezel are „smooth“ and without many edges it can be dressed up so that it looks less sporty.

Longines Hydroconquest as an example.

·

I like it on something vintage that has no business being in the water anymore.

A diver is a rugged, manly tool watch and the best parking spot for a leather strap. Man up, leather up!

It depends on the occasion, outfit and if it's desk-diver style watch (thin and only used by the owner to go to the beach once or twice a year) or not. I prefer elastic nato straps, but I sometimes swap it for a leather nato or for a normal leather one.

·

Unless the diver has an equally dress look (for example Seiko Alpinist, Alpina Seastrong etc), leather strap doesn’t match good.

·

On whether the person's bigger than me .

·

I answered, C Depends!

How much time is the watch under water? Seconds? Minutes? Hours?

Fresh water? Salt water?

Question: Is Zane's still in business?

If so, how could he be? On the site it says every watch strap is "Sold Out.' Or, is he getting out of the strap part of the business?

Negative. The strap company is a side project.

Best way to get one, sign up for notifications and watch on the Instagram. Zane will notify when his store is going to have stuff in stock.

And be warned, the in stock, especially the natural coloways, and the black color ways will go fast. Like under 10 mins fast.

Mrs. Yetti has wanted one of his envelope clutches in natural, and he only does those like once a year.

I will also be honest, not paid, or a friend, but the straps are legit.

For other options look at Wilco Leather too.

Also check reddit, Facebook, and eBay. They will come up for sale occasionally. But again they will move fast, so if it looks like a good deal, PM/Bid/Buy. Cuz by the time you check back it'll prolly be sold.

Feel like you should add another selection on your options. Put on whichever strap you want. It’s your watch.

Looks good. When not near water, put it on. When near water, nato/rubber/bracelet. Easy.
