Watches and Rock & Roll. What's your other hobbies?

Mines playing guitar, so what's your's?

With collecting watches I think you need time and patience, especially when you've being collection for a number of years, make the right choices and purchase watches that will last in your collections, regardless of price. So less impulse buying and more strategic purchases.

Like watches when I first started playing guitar I wanted to buy every guitar, they all looked great and with my untrained ears they all sounded great, but I soon realised that not all guitars are created equal, much like watches.

Now you don't have spend a fortune to get a great sounding guitar, same principal applies to watches, middle ground guitars even some cheap guitars with the right strings can sound like high end guitars, like watches. Some of the middle tear watches offer great value, look the bomb, run well, great spec's, so you don't have to own a Rolex or the like to get the same qualities that a Sinn pictured can offer. Same as you don't have buy a Gibson Les Paul limited edition from the vintage collection at $15,000 to get a fantastic sounding musical instrument.

Anyway that's my take after being involved in both hobbies for over 20 years.

I'd like to hear your thought's and onions, all are welcome here, I'm definitely not a watch or guitar snob, far from it and I can appreciate what peoples choices are and where they are up too in their hobby journeys.

2015 USA Fender Stratocaster and Tasman 6 string Acoustic with my Sinn 556iRS.

Cheers

Tony

Don't tell anyone, but if it was watches or fishing....anyone want to buy a small collection of Tags, Seikos, Nite and Citizen? 😀

Just wondering is sleeping consider a hobby 🤔 If yes... Then I do love sleeping 😴😴 believe me... Work, kids, and wife and kids again... Can be pretty tiring 🥱😪

·

I play guitar too. Have played in bands (heavy stuff) over the years but now it's mostly just for my own enjoyment. Here's me at 17 (its a Squire Strat) I played it till my fingers bled, was the summer of ... 87... doesn't quite work. 🤣

I feel you brother, work, kids, work, kids and then guitar and watches. In that order too 🤣 Sleeping would be my biggest hobby, if I can ever get any, working night shifts for the railway then going home to deal with kids and a unhappy wife because apparently I’m never there, go figure 🤣 enjoy your rest whenever you can mate

Mate good selection and variety of hobbies. I was a avid motorcycle rider for 40 odd years until I got cleaned up by a learner driver and then the kids came along and that put a stop to that. I’m hoping in my retirement to get back on a bike and enjoy a ride on a nice sunny day once again 👍

Take care buddy

Great to see other guitar wheelding watch collectors, I knew I wouldn’t be alone here.

I only play for myself and my oldest son who now teaches guitar, I’m very proud of him. I’ve always been musically inclined and when he wanted to start playing I was over  the moon. I’m not encouraging him to start collecting watches, I couldn’t afford it 🤣

Lovely Sinn there! Aside from watches I have a passion for travel, hiking (particularly mountains or anywhere with amazing views).

Aside from that work and two kids keep me fairly busy!

I enjoy cooking, which thankfully is a necessity 😁.

Besides that, only one expensive hobby at a time so my interest in sartorial affairs have been put on hold until I get my watch fix.

Great to hear from you Nat. You would be right at home if you came to where I live. The Blue Mountains near Sydney Australia. Excellent bush and cycling tracks and the views are, well in my opinion some of the best in the world 👍 Being a single dad of two boys I know exactly  where your coming from, it’s not easy juggling work and family life but my sons are my best friends and were more like mates rather than father and sons. Good to see a female’s perspective on watches and there other hobbies, should be more of it 🙏🏻👍

My pic is a bit of a hobby giveaway 😂.  Enjoy and good at Endurance sports.

Love listening to music but complete absence of skill making it..  Cool hobby though, my cousin (whom I quite close with) is guitar and lead singer in a rocking dad band 👏

Very busy man my friend, you’d need a good watch to know when to get to your next hobby 🤣 Enjoy yourself as long as possible, before old age creeps up on you and then sit back and reminisce and enjoy your watch collection 👍

Ah yes the days of socialising at the pub, they were such great times, live music and pool comps with your mates, girls everywhere, people had respect back then, something younger people lack these days.

I agree that probably best I stick to collecting watches, well for now anyway, still would love a Ducati Monster or naked bike at some point in my retirement. You just can’t put into words the exhilarating feeling that you get from riding bikes.

Stay safe mate 👍🙏🏻

Do it before its too late Ducati monster a damn good fun bike. Ya only live once. Take it easy bud 🤘👍

Cool 😎 I think it doesn’t matter whether you listen to or play music it’s an important part of everyone’s life. Music transcends all races, ages, no matter where you live in the world music brings people together. It’s always been a important part of my life ☝️
I used to enjoy a lot of outdoor sports but with all the injuries I’ve suffered due to work I just enjoy going for walks with my best friend Harvey my Golden Retriever 🤣 Dogs are great, they don’t judge you, their always faithful, unconditional love is what you get from them.

Enjoy your sports and your watch collecting journey mate.

Take care and stay safe 🙏🏻

I actually got into watches because I wanted a watch that would survive the occasional mosh pit, which were amongthe no.1 killer of watches, so I got a G Shock. In addition to liking loud music, I like my long walks, i try to read and cook. I like to brew my own coffee, so I like my watches with timers. I've also accidently acquired collections of pens and knives.

That's an interesting looking strap Tony, what brand is it?

That's an interesting looking strap Tony, what brand is it?

The strap on the Sinn if from an online store called StrapsCo, I think their based in Singapore or elsewhere. Anyway it fits very snuggly because of the curved ends, so I had to wrestle with it to fit it on the watch, but I don’t think it will be falling off. It cost me $81.00 AUD so pretty cheap really.

oh and it has a metal deployant clasp 👍

Like the Bryan Adams quote...those times when we had more hair than money...now it's the reverse...not sure which I would prefer, but I think money wins out over hair 😀

Watch collecting is a part of my edc collecting hobby. Unfortunately other edc items are easy to buy impulsively as you can spend less and get great quality, which might explain why I’ve got 15 folding knives and only 6 watches. Otherwise work and 2 small kids keeps me occupied.

I used to collect EDC as well but at the time I was getting too carried away and was just buying everything and ended up with about 50 knives. I've kept some of the more interesting ones but the rest went to friends, family members or sold on to fuel my watch addiction.

At the same time I had a fascination with Dunhill lighters and lighters in general, but I did manage to amass a large selection of Dunhills' somewhere in the order of 300 😮 and it got to be rather expensive in the end, as I was servicing and repairing most of them in the process and parts for a lighter that was produced in the 70' - 80's was difficult and I had to use my ingenuity often and make parts from scratch.

Again I've sold off most of them to again fuel my watch hobby, but I did keep one special Dunhill 70 which belonged to my father so it has a lot of sentimental value more than a monetary value.

I do miss tinkering with the lighters as I'm just not up to pulling watches apart or even trying to service them with my eyes not being what they used to be and the fact I have sausage fingers that get in the way 😂 I just do the occasional watch mod like replace the crystals ect but that's the extent of it for me.

Like yourself my kids and work take up most of my time and with having kids as you know, their a very expensive addition to any family.

Huge, and I mean HUGE gearhead. Passionate car lover and historian. Pictured here is McLaren F1 chassis 29 sold at Gooding and Co during Monterey Carweek 2021, my absolute dream car among many. One thing led to another and there I was, stood infront a piece of automotive art worth well over $20,000,000!

First off, I love that Sinn. I'm planning on getting the 556 A RS in the future. Need to have a feel to that brand and the red seconds hand make my heart pump.

About hobbies I'd say I have a couple, like going to the mountain and photography. Have been taking photos for over 37 years. Have gone through many brands and cameras and now, after having a heavy Nikon professional equipment for many years, have switched to Fujifilm. Lightweight capable and friendly user tough equipment.
