Commissioned by American banker Henry Graves Jr. in 1925, the Henry Graves Supercomplication by Patek Philippe took seven years to complete and was the most complicated watch of its time, featuring 24 complications. This masterpiece was the result of Graves' rivalry with automobile magnate James Ward Packard, who were both vying to own the world's most complicated timepiece. The watch includes features like a perpetual calendar, minute repeater with Westminster Chimes, sunrise and sunset times for New York, and a celestial map of NYC as seen from Graves' apartment. In 2014, it fetched $24 million at auction, setting a record.

This watch weight is about a pound and a quarter (536 grams).
Actually the rivalry was very interesting, especially because Henry Graves and James Ward Packard did not know each other. There were quite a few watches before this one. If you want to read the story of the rivalry and how Patek Phillippe company used both of them to pay for more complicated watches, read "The Grand Complication" by Stacey Perman.
To me, the most interesting complication that Mr. Packard ordered was prediction of sunrise and sunset in Warren, Ohio, where Mr. Packard lived. That prediction was accurate within 5 minutes of the event. Just imagine what kind of gear calculations had to be done to do this. And all of this without any computers. Amazing.
