MoonSwatch Observation

My wife and I went into NYC yesterday to see Daniel Craig in Macbeth on Broadway (which was excellent). But before the show, I naturally wanted to do some watch shopping.

Our first stop was the Omega boutique on Fifth Avenue. We arrived a few minutes before 11 am. There is a Swatch boutique one store over from Omega. As we walked up, there was a line of about 15 people waiting for the Swatch store to open. We realized that they were lining up to get MoonSwatches because the store opened at 11 am. We figured what-the-hell and got in line figuring that it was only going to be about a 10 minute wait, and maybe we just got lucky. Before the store opened, the line increased to about 25 people.

Alas, when the store finally opened, they told us that they did not have any in stock, and the line immediately dispersed.

This whole thing surprised me, and told me that there is still substantial interest in the MoonSwatch. When we got in the line, we assumed that the others had some inside information and had good reason to believe that they had units in stock. Clearly, they did not, and people were just lining up hoping to get lucky.

25 people in line before the store opened on a random Saturday morning is pretty impressive. Do they do this every weekend? Every day? I'm sure some were flippers, but many clearly were not. In fact, the guy in front of me in line went into the Omega store after the crowd dispersed, and it looked like he was in the process of buying an Aqua Terra when we left a half hour later. (Alas, no purchase for me.)

Anyway, just thought this was an interesting front-line observation.

I called a Swatch store the other week and they sold all their stock in 2 days. The demand still seems to be rather high. I wonder how long they keep it as a store exclusive?

But better luck next time. I'm still on the hunt for one.

Yep - happened to me in London.

Also in Watch Telepathy News: I walked into a Swatch store, the sales assistant made eye contact, I glanced over at the Moonswatch display, looked back at him and he immediately shook his head. We both smiled at ridiculousness of the situation as I left. 3 steps and 5 seconds in a watch store is a new record for me 😂

Ha! Funny enough my wife and kids were in the city yesterday as well they went and saw Chicago with Pamela Anderson as Roxy lol btw she can’t sing nor dance hahaha!! Anyway they stopped by the swatch store and same deal no moonswatches available but they do have it on display

the stock they did sell have had issues with the soft plastic covering the dial scratching easily. I bet people think they can treat them as a sports watch. Its a pretend Omega plastic quarts chrono priced $100.00 more than it should be for casual wear.

Really? There are about 25-30 of them here at my regional store.

You mean you went to see the Scottish play? Hot potato, off his drawers pluck to make amends 😂

Same here in Oz - while the on line hype train has moved on the watches still sell in minutes after arriving in store.  The swatch boutique near me has taken to having a flyer printed they simply hand to people saying we don't have them, we don't take orders, we don't take phone enquiries, etc.

I found a MoonSwatch on another forum this week that was fairly priced and I'm waiting on its arrival tomorrow.  It's the Mission to Earth, I'm no where near a Swatch store so stopping in randomly isn't an option. I'm a huge Omega fan and Swatches were on my wrist in high school (class of '87).  I don't mind paying a little over MSRP to secure one now and be done with the "how/when will I find one"  If and when they become available online I'll probably grab one or two more, just for fun.  Before anyone comes at me with the "I'd never pay over retail", don't worry I didn't use your money to pay for it.

I almost was going to get one after all the hype and reviews. I rather get the real deal or something much better quality that match that price. I really feel Swatch should done better job  in planning ahead and move it up a notch as far as quality. I don't know if is supply and demand  they should of sold over millions of pieces by now. You can't order them on line sucks!
