Reverso: New Addition for a Career Milestone

Last week brought good news on the career front. I am an attorney and, without going into any specific details, I had the biggest win of my career. Actually, it was the biggest win of just about anybody I’ve ever met in my profession. So, I decided I deserved a new addition to my collection to commemorate the achievement.

I wanted a Reverso for some time, and I was ready to pull the trigger. I was looking at the Reverso Duoface in steel, and would have been thrilled to get that. But my wife saw the pink gold version in the case and said something to the effect of, Don’t you think you earned something nicer than “plain” the watch? Who was I to disagree?

So I bought this beauty. It is astounding. I’ve long thought that JLC is the most underrated watchmaker out there. (I have a steel Ultra Thin Moonphase that has been my favorite for some time.) But the Reverso is a whole new level. It is so well-engineered on every level. Even the winding sound is a level of quality I’ve never heard before. And, of course, the “party trick” of being able to flip watch faces is very cool and completely habit forming.

I’ll have this watch for the rest of my life, and every time I look at it (even once I learn to control by audible gasp) I’ll be reminded of what I did to earn it. I think this is really what the the hobby is all about: beauty and engineering fused with life’s memories.
