Breitling - What's Your Take?

As a kid I grew up dreaming of one day owning a Breitling Navitimer. I thought it was the coolest, most beautiful, and sophisticated watch I had ever seen (I was 15 mind) - 20 years later I was able to make that dream a reality. But in those 20 years I also learned a lot more about watches, and that includes brand image and perceived consumer optics of a brand. I'm curious to know, where do YOU stand in relation to Breitling? This is the part where I normally call out some examples but I don't really want to seed any conceptions or thoughts in your mind. So a poll might do the trick, but I also welcome any thoughts you may have that you'd like to share via your comments!

#sketchydude 's wear Breitling*. 👌🏻🤘🏻

PS - it's a compliment, Google it. Pretty sure WOE has an article on it too.

I just want them to bring back the Aerospace.

Wait what?! I thought the Aerospace was still available? 😮

It's listed on the Breitling site currently...hmmm

I saw rumors it was being discontinued. I was at a boutique and asked the sales rep, she confirmed it. She said they had to send back any unsold models. I've also seen them still online, so maybe they stopped production and are selling what's left.

I’m currently down the aerospace rabbit hole…

They have some fantastic bangers over the last few years esp their more vintage inspired premier line stuff. Def moving in the right direction after some bling years.

Oh wow, well that's a bummer. I also really like the Aerospace line, but hopefully if they do discontinue it, it's to bring it back later new and improved...and hopefully still in titanium 🤝

Thanks for sharing! The Premier line is definitely a line that shows a more elegant and refined Breitling, no doubt 👍

Design wise they're great and I really appreciate their history but always find them a little disappointing on the wrist.

Everytime I visit Breitling I'm impressed by a few watches (Classic Avi, Super Ocean Heritage, some Navitimers) but underwhelmed by the rest.

🤷🏻

This was a few months ago, on a Facebook forum. I think it started on a WUS forum because it had this picture.

Unfortunately I didn't get far in my research so I couldn't really tell you anything. I was looking to get it as a milestone piece for next year before I saw it was being discontinued.

I think their design language is great. Navitimer is iconic! That said. The sizing and their pricing models are absurd. They routinely miss the Goldilocks zone for sizing and want to be a Rolex instead of an Omega/Tudor

Slide rule watches, regardless of the brand, are too busy for my taste. I like the calm but colourful models like the B09 Pistachio, the iconic bracelet and the older models where the 15 and the 45 on the bezel could be easily swapped. And I'm absolutely amazed that they're reviving Universal Genève, although I probably will never be able to afford one.

Interesting - totally fair 🤝 busy is definitely not for everyone. Do you like the colorful Chronomat pieces then?

Yeah, UG...(sigh) I have good bad feeling about it. As in, good in that they'll be gorgeous and that I'll want one. Bad in that, like you said, they'll be way up there in $$$ 😢

Thanks for sharing 👍

No problem, always happy to talk over these matters. I dare say Breilting won't be losing any sleep over my indifference, we're all different & nobody can appeal to everyone out there. 👍

Completely right - there's something for everyone, and everyone wants something specific and different - and in this scenario it's all just a revolving door of trying to make something to make everyone happy, but never completely perfect across the board because that's just not realistic.

Like, I'd love a titanium Navitimer that went a bit more technical and tactical in its colors and design. But it's considered too much of a class icon to be meddled with. Still, I hope it'll happen one day 🥰

Is the pistachio coloured dial on a Navitimer? I actually really like that colour on the watch. Whilst I can appreciate the design & engineering of the Navitimer, just looking at that dial makes me dizzy. The pistachio dial made being dizzy a bit more pleasant :)

A more refined, better feeling type of dizzy, no I get it 😂

Yes, the Chronomat 36 looks fine, but it would be nice you could still turn it into a countdown bezel.

·

Agreed, that would be nice!

Roger that - thank you for sharing! How bad was the price hike? If memory serves the Endurance Pro was the best priced Breitling in the catalog. I think it was less than...I want to say...$3600?

Yeah 3700. It was 2700 and a used one was 1600.

·
The_Timist

Interesting! I'd love to hear more about why that is 🤝

Thought they were more their own thing, now GK has made them a bit more generic and therefore more appealing to the masses.

I just preferred them when they were a bit more quirky. Messing around with the logo is a good example of the "dumbing down" .

I got ya - some underlying curiosity in my original poll ask was indeed directed towards how people felt the brand was doing post GK - thanks for sharing 👍

The Navitimer is an iconic watch, and I'm a sucker for iconic watches. Alas, the Navitimer and my eyesight are not a good pairing, so I'll have to pass.

I hear that - and yes, if you can't see the watch, it doesn't really help anyone 😊👍

·
The_Timist

Uuu, well, now you're just getting me excited but with nothing to substantiate it 😂 have you tried the 41mm? It looks extra busy because everything is more condensed, but the latest gen Navitimer has less text anyways, so it may look great? I've sort of been smitten with the light blue mother-of-pearl dial, but it's out there, and it's also $$$ (but it IS in 41mm) 😉

I did! Still big for me though?

But your right. Its going to look even more busy going smaller. But thats its charm! 😅

·

I love mine, not traditional for Breitling, but hey the Endurance Pro Ironman is truly an amazing watch. Love this bastard, that's why I wear it almost always.

And I'm excited to see were this is going. Hope to see more good stuff!

Fairplay - I've heard many good things about the Endurance Pro from owners, I may actually have to consider one myself 😀
