You ever just get stuck?

Sometimes, i just don’t want to choose. I just don’t want to pick one. I know this is a me problem. It’s like when my wife asks me what we should have for dinner or what we should watch on TV…just instant analysis paralysis. Sometimes this happens when picking a watch, but not often. Mostly I feel a mood and pick, or get dressed first and actually want to match, or just wear yesterdays pick, but really it’s just picking from about two or three that are not put away in my watch box, and just left in my valet tray. Hardly do I get demotivated to, or unable to choose. Iv’e only got a dozen to pick from, and dozens more straps for them, but it’s not a one watch collection where the choice is made, and I can’t be that sort of enthusiast who can be happy with just a single watch to wear because that’s just not me.

I’ve been hemming and hawing about paring down the collection a little bit, and then I’ve also been feeling like getting another acquisition because I’m a basket case. So I’ve got that going for me.

Ughckq, i know I’m crazy, and it’s a crazy concept to begin with. And I imagine a good portion of you out there are probably:

(to save you a google: Are You Fucken Kidding Me Right Now?)

And rightfully so.

But maybe hopefully some of you might have the same dilemma?

Cheers.

100% with you.

I want a nice neat 3 watch collection, but also want to keep buying watches and not sell any.

I think my solution is that I'm going to hide away 80% of my collection, live the '5 watch life' for a bit and continue to procrastinate about the hidden ones.

·

Looking at my gallery after getting my Wristy 120, I realize that I rotate through the same 7 watches or so and on the weekends when I really don't want to think, I just grab a Timex/Casio and go on with my day.

·

I’m with you, same, mostly it’s been the Seiko. These past couple days I’ve noticed I just get blank. And have resulted in not even changing strap.

Hiding the collection away, eh? That’s an idea, a little Jedi mind trick on myself, out of sight out of mind kind of thing.

Sometimes I envy this level of order. It pleases me to know it’s out there and I admire it when people can pull it off convincingly. Sadly my mind is less orderly and more scatterbrained.

The struggles of insanity.

I have zero watch rotation and often wear a watch for a month or more. When I am in this ‘zone’ I often look at my other watches and my collection looks a bit flat, with nothing really calling out to me, but I also remind myself that my collection isn’t an in/out affair, and any one of these watches will suddenly start sending a vibe out from the watch box at some point, and the love affair will start a new with a different piece. Perhaps your indecision comes from a place of contentment 👍

Maybe. I actually did pick a watch to wear, but only because it was not put away. Usually I at least change the strap, once or twice before choosing, and then swap out for another pick in the afternoon. Contentment is a funny concept for me.

·

It’s hard enough just picking 3 or so for travel

We’re like the snail and the tortoise, at my rate it would take me nearly 2 years to rotate my collection so I stopped worrying about it. I’m not going to stop buying but my taste is very select now, and there is an element of contentment that has grown as I have collected.

If I’m in doubt or nothing seems right I always grab the Explorer 36mm. Can’t go wrong with that.

Nah, that I’ve got covered: Daily/Diver/Dress.

Decision fatigue was a real problem for me. During the pandemic, I bought 7 of the same black shirt so I didn’t have to decide what to wear everyday

I thought I gave myself a couple of daily go-to’s that were quite reliably boring and happy to blend in, but alas, none of them are speaking to me.

·

Always need a default option.

·

Don’t ‘they’ say “absence makes the heart grow fonder”?

Don’t wear anything or just one thing for a while. Leave the watches where it’s not easy (but safe!) to get to them. Fatigue is definitely a thing - would be great to see which one you put back on first!

·

I buy what I like and occasionally sell off those I no longer wear. I have some sentimental purchases and my Dad's old watches, so it'll never be a small collection. Currently around 30 on rotation plus 8 or 10 in the to sell pile.

·

I get like this sometimes. Occasionally, I will think about what watch I want to wear the next day. Most days, it's a game-time decision. If I get stuck, I always just stick with my default morning watch (G-Shock 5610) until I have a need or want to change. Sometimes, I will look at the dates on my autos and see which one hasn't been worn in a while. I try to spread the love, but of course there are my favorites which will be at the top. I've even gone as far as to look at my WC gallery, to see what I haven't worn recently. 😁

As far as making decisions about what to cook for dinner, well...that's a different story. I'm ready for the futuristic daily nutrition/protein pill, just so I don't have to think about it anymore.

The larger the collection, the easier it is to match mood, outfit, location, occasion, etc. IMHO! 😜

It works when your watches are rather specific to a purpose. I can wear the same outfit with a small tank-style piece, with a 30mm Tissot seastar, that looks like a Santos Octagon, with a Seiko Speedtimer or with a vintage Orient.

Not that my watch are only traditional “GADA”, but I just find it hard to wrap my head around the concept of “dress” watch. Really, if it works with suit it’s gonna work with jeans. Not always the other way around tho.

·

Or that annoying moment when you change your outfit and then your watch doesn't fit and you change your watch and then you change your sweater and the watch is wrong again and ... then your like just stop

·

if at least 3 times a week the same thing happens to me

·

Usually, on my way back from school a desire to wear a certain watch just comes my way, and that's the watch I'll put on in the morning.

That's rough. This happens maybe a handful of times a year, I dunno if I could handle so regularly.

·

I feel you. It’s worse when you have a large collection and you have to think of all the watches you have because you can’t see them all at once.

Yeah I'm glad I've got just one box of a dozen, and have kept it there, more for me would be too much.

Yes, that's why there are days when I wear one of my favorites and I don't want to take it off and it's hard for me to decide which other

·

My first watch of the day selection sometimes happens right away, and sometimes I stand there for 5 or 10 minutes figuring out which one to wear out of my large-ish collection.

·

When I get options paralysis, I try to remember that if I make a mistake over the watch I choose for the day, worst case scenario is I wore the wrong watch for a day. I lose a day, that’s all. Not the end of the world. I can always make a better selection tomorrow. That makes picking something from the watch box easier. “Oh, I wore the Elgin and now that I’m out and about I realize I should’ve worn the Enicar. Tomorrow I’ll wear the Enicar. No worries.”

·

Another day...another watch...

Sadly (or happily), I am still trying to get one wrist shot of each for the database...

But somehow my wrist shots can't keep up with the incoming watches 😉

I try not to "cheat" and take more than one wrist shot a day...

And no, I don't get paralyzed by it...it's my last fun activity of every day...

What watch will I wear the next day...

I have those moments occasionally i.e. when there are important occasions and meetings coming up. It takes me a while to decide which watch to wear for which specific occasion or meeting. Takes me sometimes around 15-20 minutes, thereabouts.

But then, once I've decided...

I get a bit stuck if I’m enjoying what I’ve been wearing but feel it’s time (for some unknown reason) for a change. Then I either stick with what I’ve been wearing or (less often) kind of force myself to try something else for a bit. Other times that one watch calls out to you and you know it’s the “right” one 😉More recently I find myself wearing the same watch for longer rather than changing all the time. I guess it’s easier for me than some because I don’t have “important meetings” / formal occasions to consider. I’m either at work doing what I always do or I’m on my days off where it’s “anything goes”. Additionally I dress like a bit of a scruff so matching outfits etc isn’t a thing; but it’s nice when by chance my watch matches my T-Shirt😄I can’t wear 30/50 m WR pieces at work but that’s the only real restriction I have to contend with. 1st World Problems 😜
