The King Is Dead. Long Live The King!

Today I shipped my “one watch” to its new home. Thus ends my experience with trying to force a romantic ideal onto a watch that I like, but had to work hard to love. One day I will write about what this taught me about watches, collecting, and myself.

For now I chill on my deck smoking a cigar and drinking a toast to the fallen. LOL

There are no crowns here and maybe never will be.  I have zero interest.  Maybe an Explorer. Maybe.

An Oris for an Omega? Nice. Really traded up there. I rank this move on par with Leo DiCaprio's girlfriend exchange system.

Dugong approves!

·

I guess I'm the only one who would have gone the other way?  Glad you traded something for something you like more, enjoy.

·

both very cool watches, glad you are happy with the path you've taken. Live and let die right?

Leo just called. He also approves. 😉

It took me weeks to sell the Aquis because every time I took it out of the box to list it, I’d wind up wearing it. LOL

So you’re not wrong here. 😉

·

Congrats for the new purchase! Sad that the Aquis has to go, it is gorgeous, but I would probably do the same if I were you

·

Love the look of that watch on STAIB-BRACELET 😍 Worth a try

I am with you. I like the great, unappreciated brands, one of the reasons I love Seiko and Grand Seiko. If you don't know them? You think, meh, but enthusiasts know and appreciate them.

That being said, I've owned a few Tudors and do love the brand, I've never owned Oris. Yet.

The Omega is a great watch, but I haven't gotten over the helium escape valve so it's a no-go for me.  Plus I'm a big fan of Oris, so it wouldn't be a tough choice for me.

·

Agreed. I owned an Omega 2249.50 SM, the escape valve was odd as most desk divers will never use or need it.

·

Oddly, as nice as the current ceramic SMPs are, I can't get passed the new helium escape valve, which is larger and looks like an upside-down cupcake thing now. But for some reason, this one on the 2531.80 is kinda invisible to me.  I can't explain that logic in any way tho.

·

I'm so glad that the helium escape valve doesn't bother me at all. The Omega SMP 300 is going to be my next watch. Love everything about that case and dial and probably like the bracelet more than most too. It will pretty much make up my ideal three watch collection when I'm done to go along with my Omega Aqua Terra and my Oris Big Crown Pointer Date.

This sounds familiar.  When I sell off my Breitling Colt that leaves this Seamaster, an Oris Aquis Staghorn Restoration LE, and my Divers Sixty Five Bicolor.  I dig all of them, but I could see selling the bico and going with a big crown pointer date for more variety.

hello, big brother! 😎

That's a watch you will love...

That ORIS, on that bracelet, is so clean looking. The King should rise again! 😎

Well in fairness, the King’s somewhat cooler brother still exists in my collection. LOL

That day complication is 🔥 🔥🔥

Good luck and enjoy the new King. I have the fortune to have an Oris Aquis and also to have an Omega Seamaster 300. And, I don‘t have the smarts or the discipline to keep only one 🤷‍♂️. I like my Oris, but it ain’t no Omega, so I think you made the right choice.
