Bronze Watches … 👍 Or 👎 ?

Are you team bronze, or not so much?

I’ve now owned four bronze watches. Three are gone. Sold off. The romance of bronze that becomes “mine” as it ages wears off  quickly, I vow to not do that again … then I do.

The Oris bi-color tho! I waited and waited to find the right deal, then got rewarded with this one with zero signs of wear and a full three year Oris warranty at a great price. Not full bronze. I love the unique use of the metal. You don’t see too many of them out there. They’re rarely for sale in the forums. And when I pick it up and put it on, I still dig it!

It’s perfect for keeping me from getting bored with wearing one watch most of the time so its serving a real purpose in my collection. I may finally be a permanent member of the bronze watch club.

I like the look of the bronze out of the box but not keen on the way it ages.

No I'm not a big fan of bronze as a watch material. I guess I have fairly conservative taste as a watch person

I agree with JamesUK. I just love the metal and the colour, and keep my bronze watches ”fresh” with some lemon juice. It does take 2 minutes, but it’s a small price to pay to get the fresh look. That Oris two-tone sure looks good!

This shot is about six weeks old so the bronze is darker now, which is making it even more visually interesting.  Oddly, I’d have no problem doing the lemon juice trick with this one from time to time just to have some fun with it.

I’ve lost that belief that patina must be a sacred part of my life story. That was part of what made me sell my other bronze watches. I was hoping oxidation would make an otherwise “meh” watch special.  It didn’t. Go figure. LOL

Gorgeous looking watch, nearly 2 watches in one. Let it age and go dark or/and treat n polish and have a shiny peice.  Only got one bronzy in the collection but like them.

·

I had 2: a seaforth b and a Hamilton khaki. Flipped both to afford other stainless steel pieces. Allthough I still like the look of a good designed bronze watch I am not sure if I will ever get one again.

I’m in Team Bronze I suppose you would say. Currently there are three bronze watches in my collection and I find it interesting the way differing manufacturer’s bronze metals age. For instance, my Tudor bronze ages differently than my Tutima bronze. I do like the patina bronze aquires with age.

The other advantage us nobody knows it’s a Tudor. They just think it is some beat up watch. Thus not a “target”.

Besides it is such a nice break from stainless steel or gold.

I like the new look of a bronze watch. If I had a watch butler, I might own one.

But if I had a watch butler, what's the point of being a watch nerd if someone else is getting half the fun?

·

I've been interested for some time but have never pulled the trigger for the reasond and concerns outlined above.

I have one bronze watch, my Christopher Ward Aquitaine. It is my favorite watch in my collection at the moment. While I don’t think I’d buy more bronze watches I am loving the patina of the bronze. Contrasting the soft mellow coloring on the bronze to the blue satin dial and sapphire bezel is what makes it such a nice watch in my eyes.

Like the bronze look and wear but never had a desire to own or wear a bronze watch. Nice looking watch!

·

Love bronze and natural patina on a watch case. Not so much on the bracelet.

Nice!  I think the strap was always a sticking point for me with my first bronze watches.  Rubber?  Leather?  Sailcloth?  I've never been much of a leather strap guy so I think that was part of the problem.  That being said, I cannot imagine a fully bronze bracelet like BB58 bronze or the all-bronze Oris 65s. There's a limit, man!  LOL

·

As most of my watches are “tools” rather than jewelry or fashion statements, I have eschewed the current trend for bronze as a case or bracelet material.

·

OK that sounds interesting!

·

I prefer bronze over wood. In all other cases, the answer is no.

·

I'm a fan of the bronze. I have two microbrand bronze divers that I love. Both are different types of bronze and patina differently. A good way to have some variety in a collection that is mostly divers.

I have the Oris Bronze Pointer Date and I love it! Bronze isn’t for everyone and I don’t think it suits every type of watch, so it’s really a personal thing. That said, your bicolour Oris is 🔥🔥🔥 I hope you enjoy its patina
