Ok Watch Crunchers just how thick does a watch become before it gets to unbearable to wear?

I've been obsessed lately with thinner sports watches like the (PP Nautilus/ Aquanaut)t, the (AP Royal Oak), the (VC Overseas) and the (Bilic Leklu) which surprisingly checks off all the boxes for me.

It uses the SW300, has a 120m of water resistance thickness of 8.9mm and comes on a fitted rubber strap. Unfortunately all watches are sold out at the moment. My only automatic Sports watch I wear is my Cadison Nautilus homage a watch I haven't taken off since I got it almost two weeks ago. Its a great watch has the look I love, that integrated bracelet 100m a NH35 automatic and good lume. My only criticism is the case is 12mm thick. All the others mentioned above are under 10mm. So is anything above 10mm to thick for a automatic sports watch or I'm I just over thinking this?

This is a pic of the Bilic Leklu I would love to get.

All this for €550.00 or $589.98 USD.

12.5 is probably where it starts to be thick

·

You’re pushing it at 13mm

I'm OK with my Mark II at nearly 15mm. It's top heavy; the heft of the case is more of a concern than its thickness. I would be happy with something that thick but in titanium. The Grand Seiko titanium chronos come to mind; but I'm not ready for that kind of splurge... 💸💸

You wouldn't like this then at 17mm thick. 😆

My Omega Speedy Moonphase is over 14mm. It's wearable but one notices it's bulk.

·

The SKX at 13.4mm is my upper limit. I prefer watches in the 10mm-12mm range.

16+mm

This thick;

Depends a little if the dome is think or the case is thick. Around 12 is my limit

Love the Komodo.

Surprisingly wearable thickness too. 6.5" wrist here.

Striking colors on this very nice

I don't have any watches that I consider "too thick to wear" yet, but after getting a 4mm thick watch I'm starting to appreciate super thin watches more

Image
·

Depends on the watch case design but imo above 16mm starts to get thick

·

Like this...🤣

People can spout dimensions all they want but case architecture makes the most massive difference to wearability.

If the case is slab sided (a la Tudor) the watch will be perceived to be thicker in any situation compared to a watch with a mid case with a decent bevel into the crystal.

Same thing goes for watches like Tags Carrera GlassBox, where a huge amount of the watch height is crystal. They're not super thin but they'll wear amazing.

That being said, that bilic at 9.00mm looks insanely cool and wearable.

I sold my Smiths Traveller because of the thickness. Beautiful watch but 38mm diameter with 15mm height really didn’t work for me. All the photos I have of it are completely straight on to the dial for that reason!

I think if its a gada/dress watch 11mm or 12mm is the max. Diver or chrono probably 14mm or 15mm.

·

Anything thicker and I get "wrist fatigue"

I’ll let you know after I purchase a Marathon Diver.

But seriously my SSC813 speedtimer is 13.3 and I think it looks fine on my 6.5 inch wrist. I’d guess at 15 millimeters, all watches would look too thick for me, regardless of case design trickery.

The 813 wears well!

I often wear my Guinand chronographs, with a height of app 15mm, on my 16cm "stick like" wrists. It works fine, as the lug width fits my wrist. I also make sure to wear them quite tight on my wrist, to avoid too much wobble around.

So I would say, that max height depends on: lug width, strap type and case shape (does it bed nicely into you wrist or not). That being said, I never get as comfortabel a wear with the Guinands, as I do with my super flat Nomos Tangentes.

In regards to the asthetics, well thats up to the wearer.
