I will agree with @Edge168n with the Piaget Polo, I think that is a lovely watch in this “category”. I also find it difficult to ”fall in love” with the Alpine Eagle, it’s strikes too near to an RO, but also doesn’t land near enough either. I also do not like screws in my bezels, it’s a personal thing.

It is difficult up at this price point, the conservative in me would argue for a JLC or something like the Polo, but my heart would want to get something absolutely bonkers.

I am not a fan of the Black Bay, and the prevalence of them seems to suggest that I might be the one with the issue and not others. I agree, I think it doesn’t wear particularly well on my wrist, but I also find that some of the model‘s original references do not either, so again it’s probably a @SteepleOfKnives issue rather than a BB issue. Then again, I think my main issue with Tudor are the finishes, I am not particular enamoured with the ceramic in the bezel, they just look a little powdery to me, slightly dull; I think the rest are slightly uninspired. I am also not a fan of the snowflake handset either, it’s too distracting. I also like to swim against the current so perhaps that fuels my aversion to many popular brands.

Ok - GMT under/around £200 is tricky but here goes (bear with me):

Image

Timex Q GMT reissue. Popular; Timex are on a roll.

Image

Geckota Sea Hunter GMT. Does have some other colours. Looks cool, I have to admit, but I am unfamiliar with them.

Citizen have this more field watch orientated Eco Drive GMT on offer at lots of places for around £200. It’s a Citizen Eco Drive, it’s reliable and well made.

New Timex Waterbury GMT. This version is all steel, others have gold accents and crowns. Not sure I like this but Timex are popular again.

350mm including the crown, 170mm lug to lug. Low profile; definitely a dress watch.

commented on Do you guys ever receive fashion watches as gifts from people who "heard you like watches?" ·

I do, but I think it’s a nice thought, and I’m not going to be a snob when somebody buys me a gift. It’s either that, socks or beard products, because you know, I have a beard.

So, I have some comments/questions.

Miyota movement - the rotors are known for being noisy, and I have a couple of 8xxx series that just seem to spin and spin. Then again, I have an old Seiko from the 60s and an old Orient from the 80s that do the same. You will get used to it.

In reference to the crown position, it is common, and some of the old Eagle 7s to find them tucked away at 4:30 with very little purchase. What they offer in comfort they lose in practicality. If it’s a daily, you should only need to change the date every now and then.

The strap sounds disappointing, but is it something that you could get used to?

How easy is the strap to change - it’s integrated is it not? Could something a bit more substantial be adopted?

So the final question - will you keep it? You have also saved me about £250, but I’m still eyeing one of these up despite your review.
