Dress watches with jeans and tee shirts

First post here, so hello,

Question ,is it bad to wear a dress watch with jeans/shorts and tee shirts? I'm drawn to dress watches but only wear jeans shirts. I don't even own a suit or dress shirt. I dress like a slob plain and simple but love dress watches. I guess frankly its up to me what style of watch I wear. What say you?

I don’t really have a propper dress watch but this is a much better thing to do than wear a super casual watch with formal attire in my opinion. whatever you want to do is fine!

·

Absolutely, these days there are no rules. Many dress watches look great dressed down.

·

I do that all the time.

·

Yes sir! As long as your shirts and pants fit well - a classy dress watch won't save unflattering clothing

·

Absolutely nothing wrong with that! (As long as the t-shirt and jeans are clean of course)

Oh you've got to have at least one nice dress watch. Hell you can get an Orient Bambino for next to nothing. It's an excellent looking dress watch for very little money and good quality too.

Most watches dress down easily. The real question is "does it look good with a blue suit?"

·

I often pair a nice dress watch with a complimentary Scooby Doo or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirt. On dressier days I might wear a black Back to the Future t-shirt. In that case, I make sure to install a nice matching black leather strap.

·

I wouldn't. You do you

·

I don't see any problem at all.  I haven't owned a suit or tie for years (and don't miss them), but still enjoy wearing dress (or at least somewhat dressy) watches.

·

As with many things fashion and watch related, my rule is: if it works, it works.  Why restrict your enjoyment with the items you spend your hard-earned money on?  Would I wear a Tank Solo with basketball shorts and a tank top? Maybe! It depends on the look. If we wore watches “only the way they were meant to be worn”, we’d all be wearing Timex Weekenders or boring digital watches that fit our average lifestyles. Most of us don’t go diving, most of us aren‘t out in a field or military environment, and most of us aren’t pilots, and yet many of us wear these types of watches on the regular. So why say, “you can’t wear a dress watch unless you are dressed up”?  Rock it how you want it, people will have their opinions regardless, believe me 😂.  Most importantly though—hello and welcome!

·

I don't see any problem doing so. If a person can wear a Dive watch to dress event, why could not we wear a dress watch in casual event.

I think it would look awesome bro. If you think it fits you well then wear it. I do the same all the time 😁😁

Well you got me there So I can wear a dress watch on Mondays haha.

·

It's just fine as long as you wear clean clothes and not whatever you found lying on the floor when you woke up.

·

Personally I prefer dressy tool watches. Like pilot's watches field watches (also called soldier's watches) or dressy chronographs.

I think they tell a story much more than a dress watch does.

Just some ideas.

The only thing that matters is if you like it and feel comfortable.

Wear what you want.  Obsession with other peoples approval is for Instagram, not for watch enthusiasts.

·

Yeah, you can. For long periods of my 20s I only had a dress watch, I wore it with everything. The question is however, why would I do it these days when I have tool watches, divers, or fliegers for less formal occasions?

I got a Cocktail Time over a Bambino a couple years ago. I bought it to be my dressiest watch but it’s much more versatile than I expected and not as exclusively dressy as I thought haha

Some day I'll buy a suit and test the theory.  😜

C'mon, other people's approval is at least 50% of the reason "stuff" forums exist.  😎

I can’t speak for others.  But I can assure you that I have zero interest in the approval or disapproval of anyone else.  Watch collecting for me is just an extension of the way I live.  I’m here to see what other people are collecting, share thoughts and opinion, and get the latest news.

Most of the time I dress like a hobo but I have no qualms wearing my Cartier Tank, Rolex, etc. with whatever I happen to be wearing at the time.

·

Yeah why not, a friend of mine wears a vintage seiko on a leather strap to work (we’re carpenters) and looks cool.

·

I agree, and wear dress watches with casual clothes frequently. Like most fashion choices, what matters most is how you pull it off: if you are comfortable in your own skin, you’ll own your fashion choices, feel comfortable with them, and wear your dress watch effortlessly. A few grey hairs helps that perspective, believe me.

·

If you like the watch, wear it.  So, the short answer is no, there is nothing wrong with wearing a dress watch with jeans and a tee shirt.

·

You can wear pretty much anything with casual clothes - although a gaudy watch becomes the main event if there's nothing else to draw people's attention.  If you're OK with that, strap on your 222, or a blingy Rolex, and have fun.

(It doesn't work in reverse, though:  Wearing a big plastic G-shock with your tux or 3-piece pinstripes makes people question your judgement.)
