Question #2

Should I just the hands an indices re-lume on my vintage 1978 Timex falcon eye? Or just let it be?

( zoom in to see what I'm talking about)

I would leave it be personally... killer watch by the way. #timex #vintage #aboutvintage

Thanks homie 🙏

The fact that the lume has fallen out probably means that the powder is inside the watch somewhere. If you do decide to take it apart it would be an ides to clean the movement, dial and inside of the case before you replace the hands.

Good looking out sir.. Really appreciate the heads-up

Might end up looking bright and shiny. If you replace the hands, you have the option of putting the originals back, if you lume the existing ones, there is no turning back.

Have you relined hands and indices before?

Ah, lume dots on the dial, never having relumed anything, that looks difficult. I've seen hands relumed on YouTube, and that looks fiddly.

No sir! This would be my first attempt if I decide to do it.

The rule of thumb for me when it comes to reluming a dial and hands is the following.

If everything is in tact and not missing then leave it alone.

If even just one little area is missing the lume then full dial and hands relume as you will never match it to the rest. I use modern lume but I age it with paints and aging compounds.

·

Let it be and buy a new one besides it if you want new lume.

·

Leave it as is brother! Gorgeous piece! It adds to nostalgia and charm of the watch. Every watch has a story to tell. It’s up to you to hunt for it! 👍🏽 Cheers!

·

I love the look- keep it as is👍🏼

·

That vintage gem glows as is.

It wears it's age well!🌄🌹

·

Leave it as it is. The watch has aged beautifully.

·

Personally, I wouldn't. I had a vintage piece that I had the dial replaced and it completely changed the character, and the feeling, of the watch.

·

Wouldn’t touch it. Beautiful watch, let it age gracefully.

Oh I would say “NNNNEEEEUUUUU” as “no” but dramatically 😂. To me, I believe that aging of a watch needs to be respected. 10, 20 years from now you might have thought “why didn’t I leave this one as is and bought another one exactly like it”.

Very true I understand what your saying

As the Beatles said, "Let It Be"

Got you!

Leave it as is.

Leave it be...

That watch has the patina of a bygone era... to me it is exquisite as is...🦈

·
Subshark

Clean it and don't lume it. It looks fab.

👍👍👍

in general re-luming is kind of a very delicate operation that's easy to screw up, have to have a really steady hand, etc

I would just buy a new watch if you need working lume

Got it

·
OldSnafu

that one youtube guy colors the lume to match so it retains the vintage look with coffee

Yea, I remember seeing that one

·
Watch_Dude_410

I'd leave it be.

If it was me I would leave it alone. A vintage watch should look like a vintage watch . If you decided to do it please be careful. Take care and Best of luck,

From all the advice I have received I think I'm going to leave it like it is.

Leave it be...

what a great watch BTW

So true 👍

I too am 46 years old. And my lume is not as bright as it once was! Leave it original in my opinion. Looks great by the way.

🤣🤣🤣... that's a good one you just made my mind up..

Good choice!

I tried to re-lume a lost Seiko pip. Its

Really hard to control the consistency and finish.
