Hamilton quality?

Hi all hope your having a great evening,  or morning,  or whatever. I'm interested in picking up a Hamilton khaki field mechanical but ive heard horror stories about it just stop working.  Have any of you experienced this or is it good quality across the board? I understand that every brand may have a dodgy batch every now and then but its a little disconcerting. OK, ciao

Edit: Here's a screenshot of one of said complaints

I've never had a problem with Hamiltons and I've owned many. I currently own 3.

Never heard any Hamilton horror stories either. Where did you hear these stories?

·

I’ve had a Khaki for what must be 8+ years by now. No issues, it works wonderfully and it’s always been somewhere around +1-+4s/day

Mainly YouTube comments sections. I really should know better than to trust them at this point. Thanks for replying

Thank you. I love the purple on that flieger style that you've got going on there. It really shouldn't work but somehow it does

Why am I not surprised? Good on you for seeing the light.😎

Just my anecdotal evidence… I only have one Hamilton, a Khaki Field Automatic. But it has been totally reliable so far, and consistently runs at less than +2 spd.

·

have never heard of issues and have never had any with my Khaki. Runs GREAT!!!

·

Never had any issues with my Hamilton. Runs great and I actually use mine in very austere environments.

Tony should have simply called instead of e-mailing. A call to the Swatch service center would have been a better approach. (I'm sure that info was in the papers that come with the watch) He seems to have over-reacted a bit.

Got to love a purple strap.

No issues with my Hammies either. I would not hesitate to buy another.

I have five Hamiltons including Khaki Field mechanical manual and Khaki Field mechanical automatic as well as Khaki Scuba and all have worked beautifully for many years. All of my watch friends have some version of the Hamilton Khaki Field and none of them have experienced any issues with their watches either. It's probably the most reliable field watch you can purchase for the price. I've purchased all of my non-vintage references on Jomashop and have had a great experience - my Khaki Field Mechanical was only $300, the Khaki Field automatic in black PVD titanium was $600 and the Khaki Scuba was $500. Great value for the high quality of the watches.

My one Hamilton has been good, but like any brand there will occasionally be issues. On one of the FB groups I belong to a guy was commenting that his Omega had been back for service three times recently...

·

My Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is nearly 10 years old and has never needed servicing or has had any issues. it does have a stock ETA vs the current “in-house” movements though

·

I’ve had seven automatic Hamiltons with no issues.  The one caveat I would include is that some people have had issues with water intrusion on the basic Khaki Field.  It would be wise to have it pressure tested annually (like you are supposed to do with any watch anyway if you expect to get it wet regularly).

·

I had bought all my modern Hamiltons second hand and had no issues at all.

If you are buying from an AD that would be fine as the warranty would cover any issues.

·

My Hamilton Field Mechanical (latest gen.) had an issue with the mainspring and/or ratchet wheel. It was sent in for service twice in a row and was finally fixed. I've run across a few others with the same issue, but mine has been ok since the last service. Given the price of the watch and the simplicity of the movement, I think it's still worth the risk. Brands from every tier have had issues at one time or another; I think it was just my turn.

Tony clearly hasn’t heard of a warranty and decides to be judge, jury and executioner. Or… Tony is telling porkies and overwound his watch and thinks that it is Hamilton‘s fault he killed his mechanical.

Favorite watch in my collection, I replaced the leather strap with rubber. I have not heard of any horror stories.
