Vintage Omega at Work

I’ve got my 1996 Seamaster with me tonight..

Do you prefer vintage or modern Omegas? I’m thinking about either trading this in or outright buying a new 300m in black.

I do opt for the modern ones, their coaxial calibres are really wonderful, I have an omega Seamaster 300 chro no Co axial prior to Master Chronometer ones and remains in COSC parameters

I really do like the new 300m that I just tried on.. very tempting. I’d have to take it off the bracelet for work tho

Buy a new one.

·

I have that one! But honestly, I’m shopping for the modern version now…

·

Goldeneye64 Seamaster is always going to be a classic. I prefer the modern (Daniel Craig) Omegas though.

·

1996 is vintage? Crap.

I know right? 😂

I was in combat in 94.. I’m on borrowed time right now at 51 😂

Id have this era of seamaster. Don't get me wrong i think the new versions are beautiful watches i just think they're more like jewellery than dive watches. This era is more classy and not so liberacé

I like both! If you can keep yours and get the new one that's the way to go.

I have a 1999 Brosnan era automatic and the beauty of that - which still doesn't register with many people; maybe because they've never serviced a watch in the first place - is that it can be serviced by any good, competent watchmaker. Once you get to the co-axial era, you're locking yourself into pretty much servicing with Omega only. Nowhere near the same number of indie watchmakers will touch a co-axial, I find.

But in the case of your quartz there in the OP, a service from Omega would equate to simply replacing the whole movement. I'd keep it personally. It's worth more as a classic, fun watch, than it is in $$$.

Way too trusting of the population…

·

Keep the one you have and when finances are right go get yourself the new one..! That is what i would do...but then I've been married four times LOL

·

Honestly I would keep that one and buy the new model as well. I don’t know what you’re money situation is but they both are so awesome in their own way. I gotta say I love my Seamaster in black.

I love the new seamasters they are awesome if you can keep yours and enjoy both. I’ve not been in the position to keep watches and buy more. I have to keep selling to buy new watches I want to try but some, not many , I regret selling especially the Black and the blue Seamasters I’ve had over the last few years. Recently sold the blue to get a grand seiko and while I’m over the moon with the GS I know I’m going to get another seamaster and as you have memories with yours you might be able to buy another just like it in the future it won’t be the same. But you will enjoy the new one I’d recommend one highly

I recently picked up a 2531.80 and sent it in for a much needed service to Omega. In my opinion this is the best looking Seamaster 300M. For me it is the machined wave dial and the fading of the aluminum bezel that sets it apart.

·

Also, what strap is that?

·

Keep it!! Pure class 🔥 And these look awesom on a sharkmesh

·

Vintage, but its not like I have either. :)

·

Go for a modern one but do it’s with the rubber strap i think is best, the bracelet is too 90s & no taper to it, I’m not an Omega fan but that 300m SMP white dial ! 🤤

It’s literally the twin to mine!

That’s a good point.. this seamaster was my first “high end” watch purchase I’d made and it does have some memories attached already. If I traded it in I think I’d miss it.

That’s the one right there! I’m starting to agree with most people on this post.. I believe I’ll keep the vintage when I buy the new one.

I have a 1998 and love it. The new 42mm are too large
