Small Wrist lug to lug?

Quick question for those with small wrists. What do you think would be the max lug to lug distance someone with 6.00-6.25 wrists could pull off?

There really isn't a formula for this. There are many variables, like actual flat width of wrist, how the lugs of the watch sit, personal taste and comfort, etc.

If you can't try something on in person, make a scale cardboard mockup and try on for size.

But if you want a number, I'll say something like 48mm based on my own confabulation.

·

As someone with similar wrist size, I’d agree on 48. Prefer more around 46.

·

Whatever does not look like a car hubcap on your wrist works. A big watch will make your wrist look even smaller and if automatic heavy like a hubcap.

·

I Have a 6.30 wrist.

anything above 46mm LtoL looks too big : I can’t even admire the strap.

·

I have a 19cm wrist and I am uncomfortable with most L2L of >48mm. But one must take into account case back shape, lug angles and wrist shape. No two wrists are alike; some more flat and others more oval.

·

I have 16cm wrists (6.25 inch) and I'd say 50mm lug to lug if you really love the watch. I wear a Speedmaster and I find it fits well...maybe not in wrist shots, but when you see it in the mirror or from a portrait photo it looks good.

But as @OscarKlosoff mentioned there ae more facets to how a watch wears than lug to lug, so if you can, try it on first!

As some have already said, probably no exact formula for calculating this...

But as an approximation, using calipers, I have a wrist width of about 56mm (7 inch/18mm wrist circumference for reference). But realistically, once you factor in where you want the lugs to stop and wrist shape, I probably max out around 50-51mm. Using these ratios and assuming you have the same wrist shape as mine (very risky assumption), I would say you probably max out at around 47-48mm.

People (particularly men), worry way too much about this.

There are ladies who put on a 41mm+ case width and don’t think twice about it. If you like a watch, wear it and enjoy it. I regularly wear a 49mm lug-to-lug, 42mm case width Omega SMP with a similar sized wrist and love it. I also wear watches down to 34mm width with very shallow, integrated lugs.

Would I wear a Panerai? Well, no. But not because of the case size. It’s because I’m not a Russian Oligarch on vacation in Miami.

At the end of the day, watch size doesn’t matter, whether it’s “small” or “big.” It’s how it looks to you that matters.

·

I’m a 6.25 wrist and think 51mm lug to lug is perfect!  Of course depends on lug and bracelet angle, case shape, and one’s love of crazy big watches (I’m guilty on that last one)

Savage swipe at Panerai there *chef‘s kiss*
I do have a soft spot for Panerai, because some days you just want to strap a dustbin lid to your wrist and pretend to be a 80s action hero, no?

There’s a sales associate at the local Rolex AD (a lady) who rocks a 41mm OP Turquoise. I don’t like time-only watches that are that big, but she doesn’t seem to mind. I’ve also seen women on this forum in the WRUW rocking a Seiko Arnie. Again, bigger than anything I’ve ever owned, and I loved the 80s, 90s, and 00s.

I think young guys worry way too much about how big they are. Just enjoy what you enjoy. If you don’t enjoy it, don’t get it. If you do and can afford it, go for it and own it.

As the possessor of a perfect wrist size, I wear what I want, from vintage to Invicta (from the Shaq Collection. The problem with the Shaq is that it sets off metal detectors before I get into the airport.

·

Are we to assume that you don’t like overhanging lugs on wrist?

For my 6.25” wrist, 47-48mm lug to lug but it depends on the lug/case/dial design.

·

This is quite a good article on watch sizes. https://theslenderwrist.com/watch-size-guide/

·

I'm happy to wear my Arnie with pride on my 5.75" wrist. My only consideration with watch size is if it's so big I'm going to twat it on door frames, which is more of a thickness issue than lug-to-lug.

I wear the old Arnie and my mum (in her late 70's) wears the reissue 💪 I'll have to take a pic next time I see her.

i have the same wrist size as yours and i wouldnt go beyond 47.

HOWEVER, i realise that you need to TRY it, because lug designs are very different. some lugs may be long but curve nicely and wraps the wrists elegantly, yet a short lug may look stumpy and makes the wrist look fat. so to me while there is some guide i follow, but i would really want to wear it on my wrist and see it for myself because deciding whether the watch works for my slender wrist or not.
