Cruise Watches...

A week on a cruise with swimming and hiking excursions planned - plus a "fancy, dress smart" night aboard. Here's what I'm taking... and also what's in my watchbox. Are these the three I should be taking?

I personally would have switched the “alpinist” (if thats the name) for the tag

Good collection btw!

Can't go to far wrong with that selection Rich. I have never been on a cruise but its on my list, mainly as I believe you can eat 24/7 ! Where you going and hope some good photos along the way.

If it were me, I'd probably switch the SPB117 with the gold Bulova for the fancy night, but if told I had to take those three, I wouldn't complain.

Why do you need a watch on a cruise? Isn't is supposed to be a vacation?

Watch collecting is my hobby lol if I can incorporate it into my vacation, then I will do it with big brass bells on it! Unless you were being facetious haha.

That is what I tell myself when I go on a cruise. It is a vacation, and I do not need to watch the time. But, just like for you, watches are a hobby. So, just like you, I end up bringing 2 - 3 watches with me.

BTW, large cruise ships usually have a nice watch store on board. That is my destination at least twice a day on sea days.

Nice trio. All bases covered. 👏👏👏

·

I would take that gold Bulova for the black tie event

I did a Norwegian cruise in the fall. It was amazing.

·

I agree with a few of the comments about switching out. But honestly...wear what you will be happy with since you aren't going to be with your collection. Or just take two and find something to remember your cruise with over there.

You wouldn't want to be late getting back to the boat when they stop at the different ports. They will leave you behind.

·

I took a similar trio when I went on my cruise last year. I took my Seiko Alpinist, my Orient Kamasu and my Zelos Mako. Truth be told, all you really need is the Alpinist, it can do everything. But your like me and still want to switch it up. I like your selection, but I'd probably switch out the Gshock for the FC or even the gold Bulova; but your selection is solid.

·

I feel like a gshock is a Beater watch for the yard or gym or something, not for a cruise. I'm sure you're taking it for your hike, but that is specifically what the Alpinist is for - mountaineering.

Always good to leave an open spot in the collection. You never know what you’re going to find and buy on a trip 😂

I don’t understand the phrase “Why do you need a watch?”

By a watch I meant a wristwatch. Let me explain.

  1. 99.99% of us are carrying a pocket watch with us. Some people call it a phone. I call it a pocket watch that allows texting and internet browsing.

  2. These days, on a cruise you are pretty much required to have the pocket watch I mentioned above. Most of the eating times, menus, entertainment, your bill are all available using that device.

  3. When you go on shore, you also most likely to your pocket watch, so a wrist watch becomes redundant.

So, you do not need a wristwatch on a cruise. You may want to have one, or two (my usual case), or even three. But that is different from needing it.

I wear an Apple Watch Ultra on my right wrist a rotating series of mechanical watches on my left wrist. On the weekends I will add a pocket watch. I pick out a watch to sleep in every night.

The only time my body is not in contact with a watch is if I am in the shower. Nobody needs a mechanical watch in the 21st-century. Nobody. We have them because we want them.

I'm curious about your rotations. You said that you rotate mechanical watches. Why do you not rotate your Apple watches?

I only have one Apple Watch my Apple Watch Ultra. Having multiple Apple Watch ultras would be like having multiple iPhones there’s no reason for it.

Im a Bulova fan but honestly I would go with the Constant for dress/dinner as I love understated simplicity
