Could you settle an argument?

Since I got my Seagull 1963 yesterday I’ve been in an argument with my wife. I say the top of the running seconds hand, ie the end that points to the current second, is the long straight side. My wife insists it is the short side that is decoratively shaped. What do you guys think?

If you decide to use either side and set it accordingly it is OK

I have the same watch. As the right dial indicates the chronograph minutes and this one starts on the top, hence the long side is the winner Image

you can use the same argument in the other direction. To establish a difference between the 2 subdials, the short side is the winner 😉

·

hahaha it is exactly as you say the long side of the hand

As long as that's your only argument about your watches you're fine!

If she's right, why is the chronograph subdial hand pointing at 15 when not in use?

That would be crazy…🤔💭

·

The end that touches the hash marks is the obvious choice.

Wow! I’m right, that’ll be a first!

Oh, I wish it were the only disagreement, but that was exactly what I said, pointing at the chrono minute subdial. She still wouldn’t listen, but now…!

Long side

·

Sitting here looking at my Seagull wondering what you're talking about!

·

You know you're right, we know you're right, logic... Oh I see where the problem is. 😉🤣

·

I'd agree with you, as the arrow point is too short to give an accurate measurement to each marker.

·

The hand needs to touch the track, and also mirror the Chrono running hand. The long side wins

·

Depends are you ready to sleep on the couch tonight?

·

At first I was going to say that your are OBVIOUSLY correct. I still think you’re correct. It’s the long side. But, when I looked at the seconds closely I can see where your wife is coming from.

·

I don’t want to get between you and your wife in a domestic disagreement. I learned long ago, the best answer is always, “Yes, dear.” 😉🤝

·

You’re correct but let’s be diplomatic. No sense in alienating your wife!

·

The long side because it touches the seconds markers - PERIOD! Tell the wife to go shove it!! Grab your pillow, a six pack of beer and hit the couch LOL 😂🤣

·

Its the long straight side just like the chrono hand

I doubt I’d survive!! Although I can do the six pack and couch.

·

I think it's always the longest point. That's my statement, and I'm sticking to it! Lol

There may be a great disturbance in the force or maybe a glitch in the matrix but I think we've witnessed the first ever instance of a woman being wrong. 😏

Survival hint - If you ever go for a walk in the woods don't let her read the compass 😉

·

Who cares about the seconds subdial? 😝

·

The key word here is wife, accept defeat my friend, live to fight another day 🫡

·

The wife is always right. And you should say "I'm sorry"

·

It is definitely the short end that tells the time. The long end would be far too precise and would make it too easy to read. The long side of the hand only serves as a counterweight. This is particularly recognisable in the Omega Speedmaster Alaska Project, which was also built to withstand extreme shocks. As the time cannot be measured precisely under extreme conditions, the short end is extra wide to show the measurement accuracy. 😉

My wife thanks you, finally a voice of reason (she said)

Just let her win the argument and you will be able to buy one more watch in the future 😉👌
